last night, I accidentally picked up a villager while she was carrying bones. she dropped them, and they disintigrated, so I was not able to determine who the deceased person was (there were several skeletons lying about), so I could not tell if a gravestone was erected for the dead villager.

my question is: when a villager dies, is the gravestone automatically erected (up to the max available), or is the gravestone erected only when the bones are carried to the sacred area for the dead?

I don't know if any of the information I've entered qualifies as a spoiler or not, so I've included that in my post subject. thanks for any help!
