Hey everyone out there, hope everyone has been enjoying their weekend \:\)

I have some general questions. I apologize if these have been answered elsewhere, but I know there are those of you out there who are absolute experts and I want your advice.

1) I have heard it mentioned that you can teach the children. How is this done and what are the benefits?

2) I have an elderly villager who I am trying to make an elder. I am worried about him dying before I finish. Two of the skills I need him to work on are healing and parenting. I know how I can get him mastered in healing, but if I put him on parenting I will have more kids! Right now, my villagers are barely squeeking by with the little food they get with their crops (I don't have enough tech to clean the ocean yet). How can you advance him in parenting without having more kids? Will he die before I can get the food supply to a good level? He's 59.

3) Do the villagers work less and go slower when they are "Worried About Food"? It seems like move so sluggish. There isn't anything I can do about the food until I have enough tech to clean the ocean. I have EVERYONE on the research table right now.

4) I have all the huts I can see available. Do builders still gain skills if you keep them fixing and examining huts? Also, do they gain builder skills if they keep feeding the fire?

5) Do the kids pick up collectibles if you don't put them on them? Like when you turn the game off?

I'm sure I will have more questions later, this is it for now.

Thanks to everyone for any suggestions you can give.

1) You need a Master or adept parent to teach the kids. Just drop one of these skilled villagers on a kid.
2) I wouldn't know!
3) Yeah, they seem to go slower when they are worried.
4) Yep, they gain skills in fixing huts. But I don't think they do when they keep feeding the fire.
5) Nope, sadly. \:\(

hi Charley, thanks for the help and cute puppy!

Do the kids become good at things faster is they are taught by a parent? I would assume the answer is yes, duh, but I don't know.

Also, if you 'teach' a child, does that increase the parenting skills? I want my poor elderly villager to master parenting, but not by breeding more mouths to feed!

Well in answer to your #2 question, do you have any females over 50? If so you can put them together without getting more population.

Probably not, xTRINITYx. Yes, parents can ear parent skills if they teach the kids!

1) Yes adept or higher parents (dont have to be check as parents just need the skill required even if you have them on somthing else at the time) drop the adult with the proper skills on any child and watch them line up. children do not learn skills by this some people have speculated, but its not true.

2) Your options for this are, if you have a female over the age of 50 she cant have anymore kids so you can continually put them together and not worry about new children, dont wait for them to go to the love shack, just pick him up and drop him on her over and over again, and depending on how far he is allready, should take about 3 minutes of this, another option for this is the adult who has parenting skills that is *teaching* the children does gain parenting skills but this does take longer then the option i mentions before.
His healing skills requires a little patience and time, you can either a- place him over and over again on a herb and wait till he *improved his skills* or you can make one of the *special ill stews* and make him heal a bunch of people, i would go for the study herb one, seems less mean lol

3) yes when their worried about food they do seem to move slower, but be patient when you solve the algea problem they will have unlimited food.

4)yes they gain skills by examining and fixing huts, there are 3 reg huts, plus the love shack and sewing hut and hospital and there are also 3 other ways to gain building skills, clearing brairs and mosaic and vines, if you have all those, your villagers will still gain skill on examining and fixing huts,
I havent seen any evidence stating they gain skill from the fire, but i could be wrong. usually itll tell you they are gaining skill when its happening, and i have never seen that.

5) no the kids dont pick up anything without you moving the hand of god and placing them on the item, sorry.

Hope this helps, if you have any other questions you can PM myself or anyone else thats ususally helpfull, like Charley or village_monk, etc... we all post alot so you know which ones.

Not quite right: they only gain skills by fixing huts. They gain nothing by examining them. If you see a builder 'examining' a hut, pick him up and drop him back down again; hopefully he will start 'fixing' it. If not, just repeat until he gets the message. ;\)

No skills are gained by collecting firewood.

Island Events: I've played for approx. 530 hours and have only seen 7 Island Events. Everyday when I start my village, I am excitedly awaiting an event but nothing!
