Is there a limit to the number of Elders there can be in a game?

The limit is 50 Elders. I still train my villagers to become "Elders" even though they do not get a totem. I hope in VV3 every villager who masters at three tasks will at least have the title of Esteemed Elder.

would be great if you got something "special" if someone masters in all fields... would be some achievement afterall

You are right, and it would give you something else to work toward.

Actually, everyone becomes an elder, that's the aging side. I believe you're refering to being an 'Esteemed Elder'.

I finally got a female (Moma) who is a master in all 5 fields....but nothing happened, she isn't even an esteemed elder since I already have 51 totems. I can't remember what the special island event was that gave me the 51st elder though.

Here's a tip...there's a stew recipe that will make your villagers live a looooooooooooooooong time if they eat it. My oldest villager lived to be 97
