It is like real life
when you are learning something new, you pick up basics pretty quickly, and then the learning gets slower because you are learning more difficult concepts or processes
take piano lessons for example
you learn the scales in a very short period of time
you learn to play Mary had a Little Lamb and BaaBaa Black Sheep fairly quickly
the songs you want to play get progressively more difficult and it could take years to learn to play Beethoven or Mozart, or Rachmaninoff
if you have a talent for music, the process takes less time, if not, it takes a lot more work
