my villagers that i have set for farming will constantly plant seeds and water my farm while it has no veggies at the time, now im im curious, does any of that have an effect on how soon the crops come in or how much crops will be? i mean it seems it alwaystakes 90 min to come in and 800 food comes up i think. im trying to decide wether i should keep my farmers there or not while no food is present and if i dont have any farmers watering/planting will it effect the farm negitivly?
Thanks in advance!

New crops will appear every two village years whether the old crop was harvested or not. Each new crop will have 800 food units.

Farmers do gain skill from any farming activity, not just harvesting. Even though it doesn't affect the crop cycle, it can help them become master farmers. \:\)

The only other food source that comes to mind is from mushrooms that the kids collect. Constant monitoring of the village can make maximum use of this resource.

Food consumption is probably less than you would imagine, however. On the order of 20 food units per villager per village year (which depends on game speed selected), from what I have seen. So, you might have enough food to last till you can get enough tech points to by level 3 of farming. And, even if your food drops to nothing, it still takes a long time for the villagers to suffer enough starvation damage to die.

In future villages you might want to consider keep the population down so that the overfishing that causes the algae never takes place till about the time you can eliminated it with level 3 farming.

Wait, so you can just take your farmers away after harvest is over and a new crop will come in anyway? (Assuming you don't want to increase their skill of course) Please confirm - if so, great news!
