Normally when my farmers and builders get to that stage where they're so old they can barely move I train them to research as a way to "retire" them and let the younger crowd take over. However, last night after five 70+ ladies refused to learn after multiple tries, I got frustrated and made a "special stew". I proceeded to force feed it to all women 50+ and killed them all off. After all, they couldn't breed anymore and I was tired of fighting with the stubborn old biddies when all I wanted to do was give them a well earned rest!

Then today when the elderly men refused to learn a new craft, I did the same to them, only I only killed off the men 65+. (I like to keep certain older ones strictly for breeding.)

I feel guilty about it, but doggone it, I'm the Goddess of this tribe. If they're not going to do as I say I shall have to bring down some old fashion wrath upon them!

That is evil.....

Well, I guess when the villagers act up, they only thing you can do is bring down your wrath until they throw a couple virgins in the volcano.

Oooo, maybe that could be a new tradition. Sacrificing virgins to the god of stews.

*giggles* I just couldn't help it. I was so tired of taking their attitude and plopping them back at the table twenty times before they finally learned enough research that they'd actually stay at the table.

Maybe that's just the 'culture' she put down for her little village. :P

I remember an episode on Star Trek where when a person reached a certain age (50 something), they would then take their own life as was their culture and custom. It appalled Troi's mother and she'd tried to get Picard to intervene.

It was 60 and that's because Lwaxanna fell in love with a man from that planet.

On the plus side the majority of my population are kids. It's fun watching a long line of little ones playing tag.

I had one that as a youngster refused to learn. As it was the beginning of the game I couldn't just kill her off. I renamed her Dunce and did not let her breed.

I admit I have thought of doing the same thing, and just a matter of minutes ago was sorely tempted, but so far I can't bring myself to do it. It wasn't to elders though, it was to a couple of 20-somethings who have refused everything I have tried to teach them. The elders, I let them just wander around and do whatever they like, I feel they deserve it. I just don't make them parents as they are dirty little old ladies and want only the younger men! LOL! So I only click on parent when I want them to teach the kids, then back to research and let them go their merry way.

That sounds absolutely terrible. If a villager that old doesn't want to learn just let them do as they please.
How horrible is that to delibrately kill off the elderly.
They are suppose to be your little Islanders who you teach the basics in life so that they can sustain themselves. To see how responsible you are to see just how far you can get in the game. They have made it that long and then to be poisoned just sounds awful.
Most people on this forum love thier little people. They do thier best to keep them alive not kill them off.

Blue_koka, I hope you weren't responding to my post, I agree with you but have admitted I've thought of it in frustration. But not with elders at all. I also think of them as my little people and I couldn't hurt them. :-)

Well, Jami, you may be evil, but you also made me laugh out loud \:D

I've been seriously tempted to do the same to two of my coconuthead guys who always end up in the center, sitting and thinking or being bored, no matter how much training and support they've got from me.

That's about all I allow that sort of villager to do! When I discover their stupidity I'll put them on the research table as the easiest option until they are 18. They will then become brood mares until they are 50. Almost a lifetime of full-time mothering tends to knock some sense into them and they very often mend their ways in later years. ;\)

If only there were as good a solution for the men, though ... Especially at the beginning, making a man a dedicated parent is a recipe for disaster; all the nubile women are perennially nursing and the population explodes, usually causing a food crisis. \:\(

Since they're not real people - no. I tried to give them a chance to take a rest by putting them at the least physically chalanging place, the research table, and they wouldn't take the gift they had been given. So they died.

In view of my age, I'm really, really glad you don't live close to me, Jami

Edit: On second thought, I'll move next door to you, and we'll turn these tables around. Anyone under 50 sill be disposed of! <evil grin>

Nah, don't worry Baj. I'd never do that to a REAL human being. For one thing IRL I'm into older men! Give me a guy with a touch of grey in his hair and some wrinkles around his eyes over some baby faced little boy any day! And it's just wrong to kill humans unless they're evil people who have harmed others. But fake computer people, well, they should've cooperated with me and taken their rest instead of wanting to go back to fishing and submerging their arthritic limbs in cold water!

I dont think it's that evil. I did the same thing, only I killed everyone who wasn't a blonde. And I kinda consider it "Honorable sacrifice"

I can't bring myself to kill off any Elders. They've worked too hard & I keep putting them on the rock so they'll jump in the pool & have fun.

I have tried to kill off some of my lazy boogers though, & some of the guys that won't stop "embracing" my hard working farmers. They won't die though! Every time I try, some doctor-wannabe rushes up to heal them.

There's a certain stew that if you keep feeding them will hurt them. You have to look in the stew guide to go figure out what it is though.

I don't plan on doing it again, though. Unless I'm in desperate need of kids and have nothing but adults. (That was the one nice thing about the GC in VV1, always a child so you always had someone to pick mushrooms!) Cause I'd like to complete my collections.

I did do a bit of evil today, but not to kill anyone. I fed them the ill making stew because my doctors were bored and refused to study the plants. So I made a few villagers ill so the doctors could heal them and up their healing skills a bit. After treating about three people each the doctors were more willing to study the plants and stop being bored.

;\) I turn off the doctors when I want to kill off someone lazy. And I usually let every villager on the research table until they are Adept then I put them to farming.

The two jobs on the island that are the MOST physically challenging and will cause injury to your villagers is Building and Researching. When I retire my villagers, I always choose jobs like Farming or Parenting. They take longer to do a task, but they don't get injured at the same rate as the other jobs do.

Well, researching they don't have to move as much and since all the puzzles are done I don't mind if they take a break. So research is their retirement and they should take it. Leave the farming and building to the younger folks who can do the job faster.

Lol I did that just last night with a guy that I had as a farmer but he didn't like to work and man he sure didn't like to work! I got so sick of babysitting him that I made that special stew!

For VV3 I think we should have a "time out" place for those that refuse to work or stay at assigned position, once they go there for awhile, then they straighten up and do as they are told. (at least for awhile anyway, lol)

Yeah, I mean, techincally we're their gods. So we should be able to punish them somehow. Maybe give them an earthquake or something.

Why would you want to kill off the elderly just because they become tired.
It makes no sense to me that anyone who say's they love thier little villagers to kill them off because they have gotten to old to get them more tech points.
I am quite aware that it is only a game.
But on how many posts have I seen players say that thier villagers feel at times real to them. Some of you have said that you have actually named them from people you know.
And if that is true how could you kill them like that?
But even if this is just a game, for some reason this just sounds awful.
They will just walk around getting bored or taking a dip going into the pool,or whatever pleases them.
Trying to get a villager as old as you can is part of the game.
I myself look forward to my villagers making it that old. that means to me that I played a good game.

I agree with most of what blue koko said. I will use the special stew to increase doctors knowledge without killing a villager. The villagers I am tempted to go too far with in the stewpot are the young ones who refuse to learn no matter what job I try them at. And I have had a few who wound up being renamed Dunce until I had the cauldron.

I agree too. I don't wan to kill my villagers just because they are lazy! Even the old and lazy ones have a place in the society, you just have to find it.

*shrugs* I don't love them though. I love the game. But they're just pixels on a screen. Heck, in waiting for VV2 I've "killed off" thousands of villagers in VV1, restarting the game so I could do the puzzles all over again. I did the same with VV2 - I tried easy, restarting it several times until I could get through it without people dying before 14. Then Normal. Finally Hard. Only reason I haven't restarted it is because I'm so close to completing certain collections.

Sorry, but I can't love my villagers. They're not real. I love my dog, I love my parents, I even love the plants in my garden. But not fake people.

I have done the oppoisite, I have killed off young lazy ones, not kids but young adults who I just have no more time for, I hate that I did that, but could not take it anymore, I figure if they cannot learn after putting them on the same thing a couple of times, they are not worth my time.

The older folks though, they have worked hard and deserve to relax if they want to relax.

Eh, see I keep the young women cause they can still breed. Older men because I like to make the elderly males the village studs. The young men tend to be willing to learn skills and so do most of the young women. It's the old women I have trouble with. Since they can't breed, they really can't contribute anything worthwhile. There's plenty of food and the puzzles are solved. So.... bye bye!
