I was wondering if anyone knows exactly how many buildings you can build total. The last two weren't enough to change any of my adepts to masters.

Let's see.. ya start out with a research hut and one that is in need of repair, and the start of another hut... 40something percent complete, right?

You end up with research hut, 3 living quarters huts, a love hut, a sewing hut and a hospital hut.

And there are 3 other major building projects to do, in addition to normal repair of existing huts.

Never agree with me, it shakes my self confidence.

Question - does clearing the vines add to building skills?

All you have to do is keep a villager selected while they perform a task, and the skill that they improve in will be displayed as soon as they're successful. \:\)

Yep.... clearing the vines, cleaning up the ruins, building the dam, fixing the huts can all contribute to building skills of a villager.
