Can someone who really knows the answer to this tell me how the design of the totems are chosen? In my personal experience it appears to be determined by what they mastered in first, but maybe not. Help please?

I think it is only random. I have found no correlation to what totem you get for each elder.

I had triplets who gained skill in each category at the same time but when they got their totems they were each a different one. So I too think it's simply random.
