I had one village running smoothly and had been playing a new village for a couple of days. I went back to check on the first village and was checking the older villagers for their health/age, etc. and discovered that two of them had become elders (yay!) and I thought, well then, where are their totems? I looked all over the village and could not find them. Turned out they were on the far left of the screen in the middle of the ocean, LOL! They must've both been fishing when they hit their third master, even though I had marked both of them as being Researchers at that point in their lives. Anyway, just wondered if anyone else had this happen? I put them just below the rocks they climb up to jump into the pool.

I put mine near the rocks by the pool and at the moment I have them all stacked because they do cover collectibles and I'm only waiting for one. As a matter of fact I noticed that the gravestones also hide collectibles sometimes too, I only saw one because of the sparkle and I popped a child on the stone and she came away with a butterfly....not the one I'm waiting for though grrrrrr NN

I decided to put my totems where there wasn't too much colour i.e. flowers, etc. so opted for just behind the love shack. They look nice against the sandy backdrop. Also, sometimes when VV's are arguing are complaining, they stomp over there and end up behind the totems talking to themselves, then come out all calm and relaxed, funny! Occassionly, I will put one or two in the sea in the upper left corner, and between the mosaic and the woodbine lily (pink bottom flower)! Best of Irish, Maura

I still wonder if there isn't some other trick the totems, or one of them or a sequence like the stew, can do or avenue they may open up if placed correctly. I've toyed around but I don't have them all (styles). I would think it may have something to do with the mosiac tile area. Perhaps it would open up another part of the island. I know, I know....wishful thinking!

I do the same .... move the totems over to the graveyard as the owners die. Otherwise I keep them around the pond.

In one village I've used my totems as a wall to fence off the toilet area and give the little villagers a bit of privacy when nature calls. But then sometimes it gets a bit crowded down there with adults complaining and arguing, people going indoors, builders collecting materials, not a great deal of privacy! lol
