The Island Events will occur about once a day, but can be far less frequent if you don't check the game very often. Different playing styles do affect the frequency of events.

The event will occur at the scheduled time, regardless of game speed changes.

Hi, I've been lurking forever on here - just absolutely enjoying the game. By once a day, are saying once every 24 hours of playing time? I've got 288 hours in and have just 3 events. No time traveling! I do pause the game when I'm not here to babysit. I don't trust them yet!

best question ever: what is an event? I'm not sure it is the best question ever Island Events are the pop up windows that you get that affect your game. For a fairly complete list of them, go to VV2 Guides and view the thread "Island Events List." Look for a pdf by Esteemed Elder.

If you frequently leave your game paused, it will affect the frequency of Island Events. The game log is erased every time you start the game, so you will only find events in the game log if you check it immediately after you've had an event.

I don't like the idea of being virtually penalised for pausing, but I have to admit, I can't think of a way (logical, not programming) around including the time paused in the real-time calculation, so I guess we have to live with it. More frequent events might help offset it though

I have always thought that island events happen far too infrequently but I have never said anything. I agree with bajantara 110%. It is too late for VV2, but perhaps in VV3, instead of 5 min after game starts and then every 24 hours of game play, perhaps: after first 5 minutes, then wait 10 minutes, then wait 20 minutes, then wait 40 minutes, then wait 1 hour, then wait 2 hours, then every 4 hours thereafter. only run the timer for island events when the game is actually running. it is annoying to start a game and have an island event in my face. perhaps add a 10% randomness to the time interval. I think all island events should have a right answer and a wrong answer if there is a possibility of losing significant numbers of villagers, food, or tech points. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. In other words, the first time the event comes along and I pick the wrong choice and all my crops die - that's fine. But a good skillful player would write it down and not pick the wrong choice the second time. Making it all random, it does not matter if you take the time to write things down or not, you will be slammed half the time. (granted, some of the current island events do have right and wrong answers i believe. i think they all should.)

Making it our wrong choice that causes catastrophies. But I feel that pausing the game cause lost events. Some how I feel cheated out of an event because I choose to pause. Half the events others seem to get I have yet to see. And my games are on at least 6-8 hrs, daily.

When the game is on a "non-running" screen for more than a few minutes (such as the menu, tech, puzzles, or a pop-up message like an Island Event), the game will perform the same "catch-up calculations" that it does when you first start it when you return to the main game screen. That's why things changed so dramatically in your game. From the game's perspective, it's like you had turned it off for several hours.

You can find out about the game log in this answer in our Support FAQ. It deals specifically with finding out how a villager died, but it does explain how to find the log.

Does anyone know how many 'events' there are in the game? Just idle curiosity - oh and I finally found my final butterfly, so all my collections are complete and I have 115 villagers.

The timing of the first two events is fixed. After that there will be an event listed in the log only after one occurs in the game. It will be listed once, in the game log for that "session" and will be overwritten the next time the game is launched.

If you leave the game running, when you get back the event will be on the screen. If an event is triggered while you are not running the game, it will appear when you run the program.

Ok, because I haven't gotten any events in a few days, I was wondering if I missed them.

By 'I'm not there' I assume you mean that the game is not running. In that case the event will appear when you next turn on the game. Note that if you don't turn on the game for several days, the events that would normally happen in that time will not appear. You will just get the one event.
If you leave the computer with the game running the situation is similar; the event will appear on the screen and stay until you return to make a choice or press OK. The game will still go on in the background, though. You'd probably see the figures update and the villagers rearrange themselves once you do press the button. The next event will be scheduled from the time you press the button.
