First off I'm lovin VV2 and the similarities between parents and children. \:\)
Ok - here's my prob: Just started the village last night. I lost my sole builder to fire ants today \:\( and found my tribe to be at 0 food upon login ( I know about the idle farmer thingy and the patch that is coming - had game on 1/2 speed all night and day.) So I have my remaining adults except for my 2 scientists who are currently preggers all farming. Got about 700 food and the algae struck. The coconuts have long been gone and certainly could use quicker refreshing \:\) I don't have the Farming 3 tech yet and just barely got the Science tech 2 before this happened. So now I have the 700 food, 10 villagers(incl the 2 babies) of which the previous 4 farmers are now scientists with only a few hundred tech points. How am I to do this? The only way to get rid of the algae is tech 3 of farming right? But that's 90000 points and I don't think mushroom picking is gonna keep the food supply up to par eventually. VV2 is considerably tougher than VV1 thats for certain! Any advice welcome \:\)

Now I am assuming that you have L2 farming already......as long as you only keep one villager on farming from now on and don't have more kids till you solve the algae problem you should be ok. you won't have and abundance of food, but you should be ok....

Thank you Batgrl2u!
I do have l2 farming but the coconuts are like down to 8. This scares me.

Would it be better if I hold out for the 90000 tech points I need for farming L3 or should I go for EngineeringL2 when I'm eligible for that?

I realize I probably should have gotten engineering L2 before Science L2 but that's the noob in me \:\)

get engineering first

after you finish the puzzle you will have a new source of food

I actually lasted with zero food for a good period of time while waiting to get the tech points for Farming 3.

I wanted to post this a few days ago but I had trouble getting registered. Thanks to someone with the forums, I was finally able to get in!

Anyhow, I was faced with the no food problem a couple of times. My hint is to make a stew if you have that capability. I won't give the recipe here, just search stew recipes. It only takes 10 food to make the stew with the rainbow effect. I would get the water and herbs in the kettle. As soon as I found 2 mushrooms or a red mushroom, I sent someone after food. Then I was able to drag everyone to the kettle and revive their health bars. Some of the olders ones had to go twice but the stew usually lasted long enough. I hope this helps someone keep their villagers alive. I had to do it more than once while trying to increase tech points. I was able to get plenty of mushrooms in my village. But I babysat my son's village one day. He had few mushrooms but lots of collectables! How frustating. At least it helped increase his tech points.

Another quick tip if you have no food at all, not even enough to make a stew, is to play on pause.
By that I mean, keep the game paused while you search out mushrooms. This way you will be able to get enough mushrooms to make a stew without losing any of your villagers. Or even if you don't have enough tech yet to make stew, it will be enough to keep you going until the crops are ready. It will make your game a bit boring for an hour or so, but at least you'll be able to save your villagers.

Thank goodness you guys had some advice. I have 13 villagers, running to 0 on food every time the crops are ready and out of coconuts and have algae. Definitely a little tougher! But loads of fun.

Howdy - Me again
Just wanted to thank all for the advice! - I have played the game by pausing for the last week or so - I don't get all that much paytime - so just tonight I achieved my 90k tech points for farming L3! And mind you I had a population of 14 during pre-dam period.
A whole lotta mushroom picking is what saved me while that dam was being built! Even then I watched my food levels drop lower and lower over time as the mushroom picking couldn't keep up and there seemed to be vast periods of nothing to find on the ground whatsoever! \:\)
I sure got good at moving around that map let me tell you. \:\)

One thing I noticed through this exhausting, yet fun challenge was that I decided to get Exploration L2 before going for Farming L3 and I found that to be totally unnecessary as there was virtually no difference in the amount of objects popping up on the beach as compared to level 1. I had already found nearly the entire variety of butterflies and shells while on ExplL1 and after obtaining L2 - I didn't see ANY increase in how often items popped up or the rarity of those items - in fact, there seemed to be longer cycles of nothing happening. And even then it was just the basics that appeared. What I'm supposing is that the game program cycles through the four different kind of collections at all times and although with L2 I was technically eligible for pebbles, I hadn't built the dam yet and thus not uncovered (ahem - pebble beach) so the game cycled through periods of pebble appearances without anything appearing on my map....I'm suspecting it is the same with the beetles. Hope this wasn't TMI but I felt it could be helpful. What would be neat is an increase of the blessed red mushrooms in L2 Exploration if possible.

Anyways - Thank you all again for your help - when in doubt play on pause - it's worth it!
