I am to the point that I have my vines uncovered and I had a villager read the writing on the wall and then POOF! he disappeared?! What happen? Where did he go? Anyone know?!

Did you check to make sure that he didn't die? When villagers die, they seem to disappear, but the are moved to the center of the village where the others will come to gather them for burial.

I did check for him. he was not elderly. he was young. i have record of him as a father to one of my young. he has no head stone in the cemetery.

Have you quit the game and restarted it since then? If not, perhaps the game log would provide some clues. You can find it in My Documents\LDW in the Virutal Villagers folder. It's a text file named ldwLog.txt and you can open it by double-clicking on it. Once you have it open in Notepad, do a Find and look for his name.

thank you. the first thing I did was quit the game and go back in. I have had "hiccups" in the game. I though maybe it was a part of the discovery of the island. Thank you for you help.

Yeah, unfortunately that erases the log file. I guess it will remain forever a mystery! If anything "bad" ever happens again, make sure to quit the game and check the log file before you do anything else. There are frequently all the answers you need in there.
