Hey there,

Loving VV2 and been playing it like mad for days. But I just rang the gong for the 3rd time since completing it. First time i got food, second time I got tech points. But the third time I rang it with one of my elders (the best one! he was an elder at 40) and he decomposed and got buried as a result of ringing the gong... mmmmmwaaaaaaaaauuuuh.. I loved that little fellow.
What have you guys had when ringing the gong? Anything this bad?

The only thing I was thinking is that I might have used him twice in a row to ring the gong... but really can't remember...

*crying in a corner*

I've had all this;
Gong affects:
Here is a list of all the Gong of Wonder's powers I have experienced:
Gong grants wisdom (Makes the villager who rang the bell, be a master at a skill).
Gong grants food
Gong grants tech points (I think)
Gong taken away health (not to sure about this).
Gong grants technology
Gong grants health
Gong grants luck

Mochajew, you need to drop a villager on the gong, and keep the villager selected, and wait. And keep looking at the line under the villagers action.

I've had : takes away technology and grants youth. turned one of my 65-70 year old villagers into 5 year old. he was a fraction away from becoming a master. now just have to wait til he's 14.

You're lucky! He may not have been far from death, so you may not have ever gotten that master status, but now there's no bout adoubt it!!

Yep i had been following him around for 2 days making sure he was staying on task so he would become an elder before he died. now i think i'm gonna try to get him to master in all 5 areas. shouldn't be too hard

I've only rung it once, and as far as I can see all I lost was tech points.

But I got a pop-up that said 'your gong cost tech points', so I was assuming that it ALWAYS costs points to ring. Guess not, from what y'all are saying.

I can't get the gong to ring. I have dragged elders, masters and even children and still get no gong. Is there a trick to getting the gong to ring?

I have managed to Ring the GONG several times.
And nothing but the ringing of the gong sounds.
Nothing has happened to anyone of my gongers.
Whats up?
I have had my esteemed elders my masters my adept villagers, I have tried them all, still nothing.
What do you have to have.
I have all my collectables and all of everything but my science and exploration. I am still at 2 on those 2. But I have yet to get any reward.

Keep the villager who rings the gong selected and look at the status bar. You will see something like "The gong grants ..." or "The gong takes away ..."

Greetings to you all. I, too, am having issues getting the gong to work. Like other posters, I've used all manner of villagers, dropped them on the gong and waited, etc. and still nothing. I don't believe this is a case of doing it incorrectly, there really isn't much to the process. Any thoughts, please?

If you they are not selected you will not see the message.
(look where it would usually say this villager improved at...)

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I've done that and still nothing. The selected villager checks things out for a moment then, "nothing" and they go back to whatever they were doing. I've tried this several times.

Now, on the off chance that something did happen and I missed it, how would I know? Doesn't the gong ring when things are done correctly? If so, then I've not heard any gong noises so I would assume by that that I've not inadvertantly missed anything.

I rang the Gong and it granted me luck. 10 sec later I was invaided by Rats. 105 villagers and at least 1/2 got sick. Oh well, it didn't say good luck!

I do understand about the gong only working every 12 hours I think, maybe it is 24, but anyway I still get nothing.
The gong sounds all the villagers gather round and my master scientist stands there and it doesn't say anything.
I know where to look. It is right at the bottom where it says they have improved at whatever field they are in.
But still nothing gets taken away nor is anything ever gained.
I have rang the gong quite a few times, you would think by now my gong would have produced something.
This is my first game. Everything else works perfectly fine.
On my second game my little ones can't pick up beetles nor can they pick up butterflies.
I do know that some of the other that post say they have been having problems with the children getting stuck at the bottom screen where the pebbles are, that happens a lot. I know it happens to others so this is evidently a problem everyone has.
But I would like to be either rewarded or some thing happening when the gong sounds like everyone else. So what is my problem?

In my first game I got "takes food away" and I watched my food number very closely but nothing happened. The next day it was "takes health away" and about half my population got sick. In my second game, I got "gives food" and nothing happened. Next time I got "gives health" and if something happened I never realized it. It's all very mysterious. I should be able to ring it again tonight so we'll see what it says and what happens, if anything. The whole game is a matter of try and see what comes up....but that is what makes it so much fun.

I think on my easy and normal games it took technology and health. Today, however, it said "Gong grants vision" which I didn't understand. Then when I started to scan for things for the kids I went too far and saw the graveyard and apparently the spirit of one of the dead buried there was standing there. I tried to drag the gong-ringer over to see if he's do anything with the spirit but he just started "reflecting" and she vanished soon after.

Wow....

I just rang the Gong and it took away life!

The Gong killed two of my villagers!!

On a more pleasant note, one time the Gong granted youth and one of my older villagers who was just about to become an esteemed elder turned back to 5 years old. He grew up all over again...but the good thing about it was that at the age of 14 he became an Esteemed Elder! lol

Didnt kill anyone, just made them sick.
daughter thinks it runs in cycles of 3. will try
one more time tomorrow and if its bad, I wont ring
it again. lol.

the same thing has happened to me twice now. both times they were just about to become Elders. the second one never got to become an Elder because by the time he was old enough to work again already had 50 Elders...also i've noticed that when you ring the gong and something bad happens like lost food or tech there is a greenish cloud that falls over the gong

Ah, I see I'm not the only one this has happened to. I had my 17 yr old female villager ring the gong just a few minutes ago and soon as she did that, she was decomposing, and I was about to teach her how to be a parent too doggonit!

I rang the gong and it took food. Usually it takes about 500 or so. this time it took all my food! I had about 10 or 30 thousand.

One of the times that I rang the gong, it granted me life. Basically, all my childbearing-age women were nursing!

Also, anyone know what it means when it grants wisdom? I have did not see any difference when that happened.

This is just horrible... I rang the gong and it took all of my food... I read that some lost up to 75k in food... I just lost over 800k in food. It is just horrible... thank goodness I have more than enough people to rebuild my stockpile.

Just crazy.

Yes, that's happened to me, too. I don't know how much food there was but the game had been running for several weeks with most of the 90 villagers farmers. In fact it didn't matter too much; I just dunked every villager in the ocean and I soon had a couple of thousand food back in the bin.

My 75 year old villager, almost esteemed elder, rang the gong and the gong granted youth. But..nothing happened, at least not to the 75-year-old guy, who was still 75 and died shortly after without becoming and elder \:\/

So to whom did the gong grant youth? Does anyone know?

Thanks Trunks! I found out myself a little while ago, when I browsed through the village kids and suddenly saw this 9 year-old girl with several skills \:\) It is not easy to spot the gong effect if this is what is happening sometimes. I mean, I can't keep track of all my 115 villagers. Too bad I already got all the totems...

I rang the gong twice, once I lost Tech points and once I lost health.................I quit ringing it because I thought something bad would always happen. Figured that was why the other tribe had broken and hid it's 4 parts in different places.

I rang the gong yesterday and it said "Gong takes away youth". I couldn't find who it affected but I saw a tombstone shortly after for "Lapis" who died at age 53. He was almost an Elder. A short time later - what do I see? 54 year old Lapis working away and it said he was an Esteemed Elder but no totem for him. I don't know if the Lapis incident and the Gong incident are related but weird. I don't think I could handle it if all my women became pregnant. I swear my tribe is 75% female!!

Have you seen the screen that comes up when you try to hit the gong? I was trying and it wouldn't ring but this screen came up and it said time will tell what other mysteries lay hidden beneath the surface of Isola and who or what is the source of the magic. A clue for vv3?

You dont acually ring the gong with the hand, you place a villager on the gong, and leave them highlighted and look below the action line to see the effects.

And yes it is a hint, just like the writings on the wall, have you read that one yet?

I'm running five games all of which have the gong. I suppose I've had slightly more good results than bad, out of about 30 so far, but it is close to even.

Now I've got to decide which village to get rid of so I can start a new game! \:\(

Just out of curiosity Arnie, how do you plan on "getting rid of that village?" Just deleting the game or is something more creative (or sinister) in the works? *<[:o))

Well, I was thinking of simply using the 'Start Again' option from the menu. However, maybe I'll get the villagers to make up batches of the poisonous stew and feed it to them. It might take a while to get rid of the whole village (at least 90), though. ;\)

Will you be a little bit sad? Of course after a while you become disconnected from some of the villagers.

Oh. And I finally found out why I didn't think my gong worked. If you don't look quick enough you can miss what it say's, and also it doesn't always happen to the person that beats the gong.
I've had where it has taken life. I never seen who that could have been,But alot of times you have so many villagers and you don't notice, which is sad.

Yes, I do feel a bit sad. Silly really, as they're only a bunch of pixels. However, a couple of generations had passed since I was working closely with the village and I no longer knew them by name. With 90-odd it would have been pretty impossible, anyway.

I chose to wipe the tribe with the lowest number of collectibles, and gave them a painless death via 'Start Again'. Their name lives on in the new tribe I've just started (provided it survives).

I've rang the gong 3 times, 1st time, granted wisdom to someone who was already a master...no change in his stats...such a waste..day 2, granted health, everybody healthy anyway..day 3 grants health, great same result. I keep hoping for something good or at least interesting! As for events, 2 floods some food gone no biggie. 1 vial, 2 child prodigy's and a bump on the head. oh and blessings day. I've got the most boring village.:D

I think the "grants luck" result triggers an island event. I just rang the gong and got the "grants luck" message, and within 60 seconds, I got an island event. Fortunately, this one was good for me... lady_geek

I rang it today and it said that it took health! It also killed off all 6 of my doctors! I didn't even have any trainees left!

I managed to make 3 trainees real quick and saved the rest, but it was close!

I've taken to using an untrained villager to bang the gong. The hope being that if the effect is bad it can't do too much harm to the gong-ringer. Even if he's killed the loss is less. Twice running I've had "The gong grants wisdom". The first time the villager became a Master Scientist , which is fair enough. The second became a Master Parent.

From what I've learned the gong result doesn't necessarily affect the ringer. I had an elder ring the gong which granted youth resulting in another elder turning into a five year old.

I had a couple of days of travel so today I rang the gong and it took health. But - I do now have a 2-year old that is probably already an Adept Doctor. I'll take that as a good one! LOL

Ok... I feel like one of my slow to learn villagers... I rang the gong again. I'm asking myself why, WHY, WHY, WHY!!! The last time was such horrible result (over 75k in food taken away)that I have been too scared to ring the gong since. Then tonight my nephew said he wanted someone to ring the gong. So, I rang the gong. Nope, didn't lose 75k in food... lost 790k in food!!

I guess it's alright... my village was becoming a doomsday, stockpiling, fundaMENTAList group with all that food just laying around. So now my little 50 person village is back to farming out of necessity and not out of habit. \:\)

When it comes to the gong... JUST SAY NO. ;\)

Backup your save game file before you ring the gong. If you are unhappy with the result, restore your save game file, undoing the negative result. You may continue doing this until you get an effect you like.

This method could also be used if someone would like to create a "Gong Effects" guide similar to the one esteemed elder has for island events.

One time when I rung the gong flower petals came out and it said it granted vision. When I looked at my graveyard it looked like a ghost was there. Did anyone else get this?

You mean that there was a ghost image of one of the villagers? Is it one of the villagers that has already passed away. You know one of our villagers that we once had and they died? Or is it a villager that looks different than ones we have had? If I'm not mistaken I think I read somewhere that there was a ghost that had a long beard and he was there for a minute and then just disappeared. Is it like that?

If I remember correctly, the ghost villager image was a girl, with dark purple hair, and the white and light blue dress on. It looked like this:

Just a little whiter.

I finally beat the gong today and it said that my villagers gained vision. And since I was aware of this being a ghost I went to the graveyard and there in the far back right hand corner was a ghostly image of a blonde girl with a long white dress on.
She was looking into the bushes back there.
I am wondering if there is some kind of entrance to somewhere else on the island behind the bushes.

Maybe that's what happened to me without me noticing it. One of my villagers has been buried twice, meaning he has two stones. It's really strange.

I'm in trouble if that happens to me because I train the kids to be doctors first, then if they make it to elder I can check healing and let them enjoy the rest of their life. If I lost all the doctors, it would wipe me out. \:8

When your elder turned into a 5 year old, did he stay an elder or did he lose all his skill? That's kinda neat that you get to hold onto a villager that was going to probably die soon another 50 plus years! \:\) Fluteteacher

A few posters have reported villages that have been reduced to just a few women. That might be the solution to their problem! Is the gong capable of parthenogenesis, I wonder? ;\)

That depends on your outlook, and the state of play in your game at the moment. On balance I've had slightly more good results than bad, but probably if we averaged it out over a lot more ringings it would turn out even. On that basis you could say that there's not really much point. In the short term, however, you could gain or lose; it's up to you if you want to take the risk.

I understand if you pull a villager in time to the ghost when the gong grants vision they'll learn some skill.

I had it today grant wisdom. And one day it "took youth" but I couldn't figure out who's youth it took. I always choose a really old member of the tribe to ring it so if it kills them it's no big loss as they're too slow to be of any good anyway.

I have several villages that have been running a while now, so I ring the gong once every day. Effects I've seen (that I remember):
Grants Health
Grants Food (usually 500)
Grants Technology
Grants Life (all eligible women pregnant)
Grants Wisdom
Grants Vision
Grants Youth
Grants Luck
Takes Away Health
Takes Away Food (lost everything once, over a million food points)
Takes Away Technology (lost over 4 million tech points one time)
Takes Away Life (at least one dies)
Takes Away Wisdom
Takes Away Youth

There are more I think, but that's what I remember right now. For every good one there is an opposite negative one. More often I get the good, but when they're bad, they can be VERY bad, as opposed to when they're good, they only seem to be "okay"--nothing extraordinary. It would be nice to see some extraordinary good, that doubles tech points or food, for example, to match the severely negative ones.

What I find amusing is that every day when I first open VV2 up, all the villagers (except kids) are either in the ocean, looking out to sea, or in the pond, looking the other way. Usually divided about half and half. Are they amphibious? :-)

Well, we don't seem to be learning from history here. The writing on the wall clearly tells us that the tribe that left hid the gong pieces and fled.

I admit that I have also rang the gong, knowing that nothing good could come from it.

When it gives health, no one gets sick or weakened. This is a problem, as I was weeding out my tribe so there would be less villagers. It seems the gong can read our minds!

OK, this is very temporary.

There's nothing in the writing on the wall that says that the gong is good or bad, only that it was included in the artifacts to be destroyed.

Had the "gong grants vision" one time and had no idea what that meant. I'll try ghost hunting the next time that message happens. It does seem that the good to bad things ratio is approaching 50:50. No wonder the previous tribe broke the darned gong up! Anyway, it's fun to see what happens each time and even cleaning up after the messes can be interesting.

I will try to add to this every day.

So far I've had:

The gong takes technology (some tech points were taken, but not more than 40000)
The gong grants health (no one got sick or lost health for ~3 hours. Tried to use the death stew, but no one would die and the healers had a field day)
The gong takes food. (some food was taken, but not more than 20000)
The gong grants wisdom. (the villager who rang the gong went from 0 to MAX on builder)

Before I ring the gong, I always try to find a certain villager. Then I will move the checkmark to a skill he hasnt learned yet before I let him ring the gong. This way he gets a full skill bar, without all the work, if the gong grants wisdom.
