Now the game (VV2) has been out for a few days, I would be interested to know how people are doing, for instance, I have maxed all techs. have 90 people (all adults) solved all puzzles but don't have all collectables and have 7 totems. How hard it is it to progress now. - totems are now hard because I can't improve much on parenting, building (all major projects are done) and healing. Also the last few collectables seem so elusive, and besides I don't have children to collect. I'm not after spoilers as I will continue to persevere, but just wanted to share my dilemma with you all.

I too have all tech, solved all puzzles and am at max population. But I disagree that totems are harder to get now. I concentrate on one or two V's at a time and help them achieve elder, it's a slow go with the last job, but not too bad I think.
I know you aren't after spoilers but there are a few threads to help with gaining skill.

Hi,

I bough my game at best buy in Jan I think. It says it is version 1.01. Is there another version of the original game or will my game eventually start hunting bugs, butterflies, etc. I can't seem to get above 90 in population. I did get to 91 before I started over. Thanks for any help you can give me.

I am slightly surprised that you have no kids with the population at 90. Surely there must be some 'natural wastage' as older villagers die? I have a male villager set to be a parent, and almost as soon as one villager dies another becomes a nursing mother. ;\)

In a relatively short time he became a master parent, too.

I've also maxed all my techs and solved all the puzzles. I have 95 villagers and 17 totems, but I'm still trying to find another 8 collectibles. I need one in the first category, three in the second and two each in the other two but they don't seem to appear and I've had none of the type three mushrooms at all (I haven't seen any anyway). I've got over 1 million tech points, but I'm still waiting for those pesky last few collectibles to turn up.

I might start another village and see how those villagers get on.

1.01 is the current version. I understand that Arthur is working on a patch or new version that will contain some _bug_ fixes.

Nor have I. What is a type three mushroom? So far as I know there are only the brown and the red types.

I'm surprised you got the game in Jan at Best Buy. It didn't come out till Feb 16 exclusively on BigFish. Interesting.... Are you sure you have VV2 not VV1?

Also the population cap for VV1 was 90. I beleive there is a little confusion going on...

Hi Rosemary,
You have VV1, it's the first game. Max population is set at 90 and there are no butterflies, shells or pebbles in the first version. Play and enjoy. There are forum thread for VV1 that you might find very helpful.

Ah ... That explains Rosemary's post. She's got VV1. The sentence 'Is there another version of the original game or will my game eventually start hunting bugs, butterflies, etc.' is obviously a reference to VV1.

Rosemary, there are two different games, 'Virtual Villagers: A New Home' (VV1), which I think you have, and the sequel, 'Virtual Villagers: The Lost Children' (VV2), which is the one we are discussing here in this forum. I'm afraid you'll have to buy the second game to start hunting bugs, butterflies, etc!

1.01 is current version? I have 1.00. How do I get 1.01?

Sorry - I wrote that without checking. 1.01 is the current VV1 version. 1.00 is the current VV2 version, but I know Arthur is working on fixing some bugs, so we can expect a new version in the not so far distant future.

I think I must have had a major event which killed off most of senior villagers at some point, which meant that I had an absolute glut of kids for a time but now they have all grown and I haved reached max pop, my oldest V is 65, so I think I have a while to wait for natural deaths to happen....HO HUM.

I didn't know there was a type 3 mushroom, have only got brown and red so far, now I'm excited...is there something else to search for. (I note that you are from South UK, I'm from Gosport, anywhere near?)

I had a village with the population at the max, and i didn't pay much attention to it, because I had some of the people set to parenting, but they didn't do their job, and i ended up with about 50 people and all my females over 50. I was also trying to let the population thin out a bit, because there was a strain on the food supply, (they wouldn't fish unless I told them to.) By the time i was down to three villagers, there was an event, and one of the 75 year old females became pregnant! It looks like my vilage might have a chance after all!

Arthur needs to get really busy on that patch. This is sooooo frustrating... Makes me want to stop playing and not buy another.

I don't think there are any other mushrooms, in the images folder there are only brown and red, if there were more I'm sure they would be in there?

Hi Rosemary -
My advice, not that it's worth too much:

There are quite a few bugs, so it kind of depends on how short your temper is. LOL If you don't get all tingly and excited when you think about playing VV2, I recommend waiting. Especially if you have a slower connection - then you won't have to download things twice.

Also, the longer you wait, the more likely it is that one of the game sites will have it on sale. ;\)
(I don't know anything about how VV2 is being distributed, but I did get VV1 for half price.)
