I've found that a Trainee Doctor will heal someone and gain skill by doing so.

I now train as many of my villagers in healing as I can manage (I just give them enough to turn them into Trainee Doctors - a bit like having first aiders around) because I found with VV1 that if I left them alone for a longish time they ALL turned into farmers and researchers and in a village of 90 I had no healers at all :(.

I always dress my doctors in the white t-shirt and black shorts (males) and white dresses (females obviously) so that I can spot their lazy backsides a mile away, haha!!

I make a 'this stew makes your villager ill' and train all the children to be apprentice doctors, I also get the (2Masters) to heal and try to get elders that way - but I have only been playing this one a week and I work full time over an hour away from home!!!
This way all the kids become trainee docs and can do any task I need them to do while still healing if required! I did this in VV1 as well (trained everyone to trainee)
