How long do you give the counter to move? IIRC the game starts with 99 points. Remember that your villager may not succeed in researching on the first few attempts, so will get no points. If the counter truly does not move I suggest you post in the support forum. See The games log file...everyone read this! thread for tips, especially about the log file.
