Ok actually there are only eight totem poles these above, and then one more which I have seen posted somewhere else anyway.
Feel free to post your totem poles anyway though!!

Ricki, it all depends on how you "attack" the game. My focus from the beginning was to breed elders. So as soon as a villager mastered one skill, I moved him to something else. This will cause your game to suffer on other areas. One area that suffers is your population. I only used one female breeder, thus I was maximizing the elder count, but my village size suffered. This is just one example. Does that make sense?

Well if there's 8 then I'm only half way there. Shoot guess I still have a lot of work to do.
Does it seem to anyone else that whatever their third skill happens to be, it takes a lot longer to master than the other two. I made the unfortunate mistake of having building be the third for a couple of villagers and ran out of building projects for them. So now I either have to let htem die with no totems or sit in front of the computer ceaselessly, forcing them to fix the hut.

I have two totem poles in the first game I started and none yet in the second game. I figured I would concentrate on the puzzles and leave getting the totem poles until after I solve the puzzles. The only thing I'm not sure about is trying to figure out a third category for master since it will be way to hard to get a master builder after all the puzzles are solved. I know there is always master parent and master doctor, but I'm unclear as to which would be easier...especially if there is a population limit like in VV1. Probably master doctor by repeatedly making everyone get sick.

Here is what I do.
1. First train them in building. Building seems to be the hardest for them to learn for some reason, so I start with it, 2. Train them to farm, and 3. Train them to be master scientists.
Once they hit elderly they walk at a snails pace, so the sooner you can get them to master building and farming, the better.
I've found that it takes 14 Isola years to train a master builder, another 14 to train a master farmer, and a little less to train a master scientist.

Villagers take a really long time to become masters in building when all they can do is 'fixing the hut'. Unless they start themselves off building (through inherited skill) I don't bother with building.
I'll pick a few boys as doctors and use them to cure sick villagers; when they get to 14 they can start studying the plants to become adepts and then masters in due course. They can then study to become master scientists and then master farmers to become Elders.
All other villagers will start as scientists. Once they've become masters I'll move the girls onto parenting and the boys to farming. The girls can fairly quickly become master parents when the population is maxed out; they don't have to keep spending two years out nursing a baby. Once they have become master parents I'll switch them to farming to become Elders.
That means that I get a lot more female Elders than males, alas. For that reason I'll try to use a (male) villager who is a master scientist and farmer to bang the gong. Quite often he'll be lucky and be granted knowledge in another skill, making him an Elder at a stroke.
