I think your current game is kaput unless an island event occurs where an outsider of the opposite sex joins your village (I had an odd boy join my village and when he grew up he was the hardest working one of them all).

For the future, you can put your partner's game on pause and reverse time travel back to the time you legitimately would have come back to your game, presumably the current date and time.

If you have a second computer you can install VV2 on that computer so that your partner won't interfere at all. Go the FAQ at BigFishGames. In their FAQ they permit you to install it up to five times and give instructions.

Lastly it may be a good idea for you to backup your village so that if you inadvertently start the game and all your hard work is gone, you can restore your game, reset the clock to the real time, and if you start the game I believe things will be ok.

I am not certain about the political correctness of suggesting a person back up their game or explaining where the save files are and so forth. If backups were ok, there would likely be a save and restore feature already built into the game, which would essentially allow adverse events to be undone, which is not in the spirit of the game. However, a person in your situation is unique.

LadyCFII, guide us? \:\)

Who's computer is it? If its yours, tell her to stop warping and messing up your game. If not, you're [censored]. Get your own computer before starting a new tribe. Or follow the backup/pause advice that someone else gave you.

Good luck.

It's perfectly legitimate to back up your savegame files. We have often provided instructions for that procedure. The savegame files for VV:TLC are located in a different folder, however, than all of our other games. Look in My Documents\LDW for a Virtual Villagers folder that contains the savegames. \:\)

I have 3 kids who played VV1 plus me on 2 different computers. Want to talk about confusing, trying to keep track of who's game is on. When you click the icon you are taken inside the last game opened. Its sometimes a scramble to find out who's game it is to get them to answer their own "event" that happened while it was turned off lol

Dear LadyCFII,
Thank you for your response! I know many young people (and this game seems to have a fair share of younger players) or casual gamers are not well versed at this process of finding or backing up files. Perhaps the VV3 wishlist could include a save/restore game feature?

For the base note writer, if you would like to backup your files, your game save files can be found here:

C:\Documents and Settings\(WinXPUserNameHere)\My Documents\LDW\Virtual Villagers - The Lost Children

You can create a folder there called BACKUPS and copy and paste a copy of all the files into the backup folder. The naming scheme seems to be "Isola2X.ldw" where X is a number from 1 to 5 that signifies the number of the game slot you are using (from the "change user" screen in VV2).

I hope that is correct. (If not perhaps one of the Gurus can correct me - I am new here!)

Best of Luck!

That's basically how you do it. I would add that you should pause every player slot and quit the game before backing up the files, so that they won't continue to "age" while they sit there. Pausing them eliminates the time setting difficulty.

Also, there are backups of the savegame files in that folder, as well. They are the files names Isola221.ldw through Isola225.ldw. Those can come in very handy under certain circumstances. \:\)
