Given that a year lasts an hour, a night would last 10 seconds. The blinking would be a bit much.
Seasons would make more sense to me.
The time span of the night I think has been the functional problem.
Seasons though? On a tropical island, that's generally hot and hotter (and maybe a rainy seasoon)
