I've been scanning the forums and I keep seeing staff ask what version people are running, so I thought there was a patch. Now, with VV1 you could safely uninstall the game and reinstall it and your villages were still there.

I downloaded VV2 again from BigFish, uninstalled my game and reinstalled it... and not only did I get Ver 1.0 again, but my villages disappeared!

My son is going to kill me!

HELP!!

When you install software from any source, you need to carefully read each screen. I have run the installer from Big Fish Games many times and have never elected to install the toolbar. Many other software, including stuff from Microsoft, RealOne and elsewhere, try to install software and/or options that I don't want. I'm very careful now. \:\)

Liatha, you have to be careful when you're uninstalling software. Standard uninstallers will delete everything associated with the game. Whenever you're uninstalling something to correct a problem, you should always back up the data folders first.

Far too many times i've seen this in games..and lost my saves. I now keep all saves from games in a folder. This is also great idea because if you install a game later on that you never beat you can copy your saves back over and continue where you left off. \:\)

Make sure you pause any that are real-time games first, though! \:D

ah yes lol. What is the timeout on VV2 before it stops counting time. Like in VV1 eventually the game stopped to save from imminent disaster if you were gone for a really long time? Is that a secret?

LadyCFII... if this is a standard feature of your game uninstaller, then why wasn't it the case with VV1?

As I said, I uninstalled and reinstalled VV1 without losing my games. I did the same with the Super Granny series. In fact, I have only very rarely encountered a game uninstaller that didn't either leave the save games alone, or ask if you wanted to delete them along with the game.

Again, if VV1 had deleted save games when it was uninstalled, I wouldn't have been surprised by this, and would have backed up my save files prior to uninstalling. The uninstaller for Fish Tycoon didn't delete save games either. In fact, I find it very odd that you would say this is a standard "feature" of uninstall programs when your uninstallers for previous LDW games do not act this way.

I'll be sure to back up my saves for VV2 in the future. In the meantime could you please tell me what the current version is for VV2 so I can ensure I have the most glitch-free product available?

The current version for Virtual Villagers: The Lost Children is v1.00. We are working on an update, which has not yet been released.

While it's true that uninstalling our previous games did not remove the savegame files, that's not the case with all software. This game (and probably future games, as well) will delete the savegame files. We have made several changes to how the game installs and uninstalls, as well as the locations of the savegame files, for various reasons, including the requirements imposed by Windows Vista.
