I haven't figured out the crate yet....the cauldron and tools both require a master scientist and Level 2 exploration...Algae eating fish are level 3 farming....

Grann is right, with the exception that the cauldron does not require a master.

Tools? Where are the tools? Off to locate tools. Well that was quick. I need to come here and post more...seems like right after I post and go back, I find what I need.

To get the cauldron, you must have Exploration Level 2.
To get rid of the thorns, you must have Exploration Level 2 and a Master Scientist make the tools. To open the crate, you must have more than 1 master builder, though there are other options that require technology levels. Dunno about the algae fish yet, but I suppose you could check out the guides section.

In the guide...it states you need THREE master builders to open the crate. I have yet to get 3, it's hard getting one because there is nothing to build! lol

How DO YOU work it to get something to build? My population has risen, but no huts to build, appear.

During the game you will get several large building projects. You will easly be able to get three builders. And it is not hard to get master builders when all the projects are done just by making the villagers repair the current huts. It will take a little longer, but easy all the same.
