*spoiler*

That would be the herb that also goes into the stew...I tried the lavender/purple bush of roses, right to the gong.
If you drop a child there, it always pops into a certain place.
Dunno - could be coincidence, could be a secret hot spot for spawning these items.

Anyway, I get the feeling the more uitems you pick up (no matter if you already got them or not) the faster new ones appear.

Of course, always the ones I dont need *Murphys law* LOL

Interesting, but not really working for me. I see collectibles sometimes after dropping kids on various purple plants (since everyone has a different favorite), but it doesn't work for me repeatedly.

Thinking this is completely coincidence -- if collectibles tend to appear every 5-10 seconds, and you are dropping kids on purple plants once every 5 seconds, it will seem like the two are related even if they aren't.

Another test -- pick another random spot in the village and see if dropping kids there seems to make collectibles appear.

(I like Borg's idea, but don't have 30 free minutes to spare at the moment \:\( ).

For Borg's experiment maybe do the 15 min intervals at the top of each hour?

All I know is that I hadnt had a mushroom or collectable for about 20 min. , dropped one of my kids on the purple leaf and voila, a mushroom, starfish, butterfly, back to back. *shrug* Probably coincidence but it was kinda cool. Dont think I'll use it unless it's in a pinch.

And is it cheating if you found this out accidently??? I dont think so, most of the game is solving puzzles by random placement and observation. \:\)

I know it might be coincidence.
On the other hand, when you programme a game, you need to check things that otherwise should happen randomly. So, chances are high there is a "switch" to spawn collectibles implemented.
In the huge pc games, programmers implemented consoles with their own commands to check & test the game (later on, those are the cheat codes in the game ;\) )

That just makes me think....

That might explain why I get so many items! I check around the village every couple of minutes and there's usually something to pick up, so I do. *obsessive*

SPOILER!!!!

I have found if you drop your kid on the purple flower north of the gravestones (there is 3 or 4 there, not the ones for the stew and not the bush ones) they almost look like a rock.. and if the kid info under action says "curious about strange flower" you will get a collectable or mushroom. I have personally done this about 20 times (yes I know some consider it cheating) but I just keep dropping the kid until it says curious about strange flower then I go collect my ...whatever it is.........

Nice hint, got to try it out.
On the other hand "curious about strange flower" refers to the stew plant.

I don't think this works, I have tried it a few times and I think it is just coincidence.

The collectable things turn up quite frequently in this game so it is difficult to say for definite.

I too have tried this and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. However, the one thing I did notice was that more often than not I would get a collectible/ mushroom after hearing the wind chimes.
