I had been using 1.1, but there is something called the Virtual Sims Toolkit, which allows you to backup and restore up to 5 games. So, if something goes wrong, just backup your game and start from there, or even have up to 5 games playing at once. I would have loved this my first time through, when I had 9 females and no males...anyways, my question is, is 1.1 significantly better than 1.0? They seem a little different to me, but pretty much exactly the same so far.

The two versions are essentially the same game, but there are some potentially catastrophic bugs in v1.0 that could cause you to have to start completely over. There are some improvements in game play, as well, in v1.1. Be aware, also, that the toolkit is not supported by LDW and has caused problems with some people's games.

Thanks...however, how "catastrophic"? I love being able to backup my gameplay...if something were to go wrong, like a _bug_ you were talking about, in 1.0, I would be able to retore it, right? Or, would the _bug_ just happen again at the point?

Do these "bugs" happen often in 1.0? I alreayd started over once using 1.1, so I want to be able to backup and restore the game.

Catastrophic as in having villagers vanish and not being able to finish the game....that sort of thing.

so THAT'S what happend! yeah, I already had one villager disappear...man oh man. I didn't know what was going on. Not being able to finish the game sounds a little bad, too. However, to me, backing up the game is a must, and I know everyone would love to do that, too. Is there anyway to backup a 1.1 VS game?

Yes there is. If you save your game by exiting and then perform a HotSync, your savegame file is retrievable from your PC in the event that you need it. The savegame file is located in the Palm Desktop directory (usually \program files\palm (or palmone)\user_name\backup). You can even copy the savegame files to other folders to preserve savegame files at different points in the game, or even different games. I do that all the time when I'm testing.

The game is easy to restore, as well. Double-clicking on the file VillageSavegame.pdb will put it in QuickInstall, ready to be HotSynced back onto your Palm. Bear in mind that, unless you paused the game before you synced it to your PC, whatever time elapses between the backup date/time and the time you restore it will be treated as if you left it running unattended for that period of time.

LadyCFII, thank you for the info. I will be doing that then \:\)

Can you change the name of the file, too? Lets say keep it in the same folder, but add an "02" at the end so it would be, for example, VillageSavegam02.pdb? Then, when I want to play, change it back to just VillageSavegame.pdb?

Yes, it's perfectly fine to do that.
