First of all, what a great forum! I've learned SO much reading the forums over the past day (I think I'm addicted), and I'm so grateful for all the expertise and help here.

I'm still new, but ready with a question I can't seem to find an answer to elsewhere in the forum.

I have 15 villagers, nine of whom are children between the ages of 11 years and 2 years. I also have two elderly women, one middle-aged woman, and three men, of whom two are elderly. Ever since the last batch of children, I have been trying to get another woman pregnant. They will go indoors, but they never come out with a baby. And I'm not talking about having tried four or five times, or even fifteen or sixteen. I've been trying repeatedly for over an hour, with two separate women (one elderly, one not) and three different men, and NOTHING. They all have quite a bit of expertise in breeding after all this--but no new babies!

Is there a limit on how many babies the village can have before certain things happen, perhaps? I have several huts and a school, the blockage is removed, and the debris is removed... I think that's it so far. I have level 1 on most of my techs, and level 2 on one (farming, I think, but I could be wrong).

How many huts have you built? one hut built will let your pop up to 15, two up to 30 or 50 ( not to sure ) and the third hut will let your pop up to 90 or more if you're lucky.

If you have one built and another pre-built before they crashed on the island then you have 2 more huts to go.
Oh yeah when you build the first hut you get up to 15 people the second hut built 30 and the last hut goes up to 90.

Well, I have four buildings--one school, one that they "go indoors" into, and two other smaller ones, with another one being built. Does that mean I should be able to handle a population up to 30?

Also, it seems like I read elsewhere that when they reach their limit, they won't even go indoors--that you'll get a message to the effect that there's not enough housing to be thinking of going indoors, or something.

They are most definitely going indoors. A lot.

They will go indoors, even if there's a housing shortage, and the warning messages aren't always shown. You may have read some posts that were discussing Village Sim (the predecessor to Virtual Villagers), which works a bit differently.

It sounds like you are at the 15-villager limit. The huts you describe are the large building, the love shack and the laundry hut, in addition to the one that your villagers built. The one they are working on will let your population increase to 30 villagers.

Update on the women won't get pregnant: So I got that second hut built, but then was waylaid by food issues... by the time it was time to breed again, a couple of elderly villagers had died off, lol, so I didn't hit the 15 population ceiling again for a while. Once I did, I was so excited to be able to build above 15... but once again, the women wouldn't get pregnant.

I figure it's some other barrier--maybe the fact that they can't fish? And I'm not too mussed about it at the moment because I'm having a hard enough time keeping them fed. But it does seem odd.

Insight is appreciated but again, I'm not worrying over much until I've got the fishing thing so I won't have to worry as much about food.

You probably need to build your food stocks up. If there's not much in the food bin the villagers won't have babies. There should be a message in the status bar if that's the case, saying they can't think about babies because there's not enough food.

Thanks, arnie! Yeah, I'm aware of that limiting factor--they won't even go indoors if they're "too hungry to think about that!" LOL But, they're breeding now--so I don't know what it was. Maybe I just didn't try enough times. Maybe I caught them all in the wrong part of their cycle. Maybe they ate something that limited their fertility? Dunno. But it seems to be fixed now. Thanks for all the help!
