I made a small video of Virtual Villagers for youtube.com
This was my first attempt to make a video, I hope I will improve when I make the preview of VV2. I am also curious to see if I can embed the video here on the forums and if you all can see it.

Video worked fine for me.
I wish i could start with 25 people lol. Did you a video capture tool or something like premiere? If you convert the movie to Xvid you can considerably shrink the file size to 10 meg or under and also you can then embed it in flash and use it on the website and the only thing a person needs is flash player regardless of what the original format was . We used this where i work as a method of making a promotional CD of company products. The whole CD done in flash with 8 videos ranging from 1 - 2 minutes each was only 75 meg with full audio and music.
I actually considered doing something similar once to demonstrate speed breeding etc but didnt have my website hosted at the time.

Yeah. My video i think is around 9MB and it's 4 minutes long. I used the trial version of Camtasia Video and then edited it with Windows Movie Maker. The nice thing is that you can embed the video in many places (like websites, etc). Infact I put it up on our website page http://www.virtualvillagers.com/anewhome/index.html I wonder if I can put it also on documents...I will try now.

documents i myself am not even sure. Edit: I shouldn't say not sure i know you can in powerpoint, and since its microsoft i imagine the same method would work in word and similar applications from microsoft but i never tried. But yes Camtasia works pretty good. I had another one called Screen Capture i think or something id have to look in my application archive but it worked good too. Windows movie maker is like the golden chalice, its so simple to use and i love its basic editing capabilities for small clips. I make home movies when i take trips on my camcorder and edit them with movie maker all the time. The only thing i've found you cant capture from your desktop is Streaming video be it DVD or from a website. It just shows up black space, the audio from the clip on the other hand....

Excellent Carla !! Aren't you so careful when you place your villagers where you want them to be. Me ?? I dump the little twerps and hope they learn a lesson - but they never do. I did notice near the end you unceremoniously dropped your villager into the ocean - frightened of sharks were you ?? Gosh here am I just learning about screen captures and editing pics, but now I know what I can look forward to after I have mastered that.

Kinda funny when you showed about 10 seconds of villagers being dumped on each other to no avail . But I think that if I saw that clip I'd definatly want to at least try VV (and of course when I tried it, I'd want to buy it).
Wow Carla that was awesome! I am curious how did you get so many villagers with so little food and tech points on the screen? I thought it said there were twenty-something villagers on the screen but my eyes aren't that great LOL. Anyway, I think that would be an incredible way to show us VV2 and I am so excited. You did a great job and thanks for all that you have been doing to keep us happy here at the forum! Have a great week! Fluteteacher

LDW has the ability to start with whatever they want in development to test the game. If you look at some of the screenshots for the game on the website one of them says there is over 600 villagers i do believe

Carla, do you have the ability to track how many hits the video received? It would interesting to see the number of hits; then, compare it to how many new sales of the game.
Not that you asked but here's my personal take on VV. First and foremost, it is appropriate for all ages. And, I think the game could teach children a lot of life lessons, survival and responsibility.
Life Lessons/survival -- food, education, etc. And, of course, the circle of life which includes death. But, VV does take it step further (which I appreciate) in the burial and the honoring of the dead during game play. The only thing that is a problem for me is getting the villagers to procreate; I don't think I really want my 10 yr old and 14 yr old dropping villagers on one another. lol
Responsibility -- aahhh, this is so much better than "I swear I'll feed and clean up after a dog, cat, turtle, bird, etc."
Now saying that, I must admit that I am very selfish when it comes to playing VV. I guess I'm going to have to share the game with my niece and nephew. Hmmm, did I read where we can put this on more than one computer?
I did. But it was like one week that I was trying to get a decent video together and I was really frustrated trying to get the music started where I wanted, the villagers that I liked, the correct length of the video, the correct order of screen navigation etc etc. ....I will improve the next one.

Gosh, I have to say it. If I bought the game based on that video, I would be sorely disappointed when I started my game to find out I only get to start out with 5, 6, at the most 7 villagers!! I would be expecting to get the game shown in the video.
