I have got that event many times. In my experience, if you tell the stranger to leave, a disease sweeps through your tribe, but if you allow him to gather samples, he does, and then you gain tech points, I think.

I let him and this is what happened....Thank you!!!

I was obviously typing while you posted.. that's such a great event to get when you've got level 2 medicine.... no plodding to get the most points you have to get for any tech in the game

I have seen this event several times and I believe the best thing to do is let the man gather samples. There will be a positive payoff for doing so.

I've seen that in my game; kinda reminds me of Gilligan's Island. You know, they can't get off but every week someone else is visiting the island! Duh!

I know that's what I was thinking..."Why wouldn't anyone go with the guy?"...LOL who knows, it was cool though cause this was one of my games I've had forever but never raised the medicine past L2 cause I wanted to see how many tech point I could get and see if anything would happen to make up for not having L3...guess I got my answer!!!
