Been wondering...what are some intersting names people use to rename thier villagers? Or name systems, that is. I've heard of a lot of interesting naming systems and if would be fun to hear some more. Here are the two I've used:

1. The first naming system I used was a system where I named a young villager after an older villager when the population got large enough. This naming would be determined by the prestige, skill and age of the older villager and the similarity of the younger one. For example, if a young boy with farming skills had just been born, I might name him after a middle-aged man who was particularily good at farming, or an older farmer. If a twenty+ year old was very, very good at thier field, they too might earn a namesake. Lazy villagers would be branded "Shamed One"

2. Number two is definatly my favorite and the one I am currantly using. In this, two villagers around the same age, a male and a female, are chosen from childhood to be bred to each other. They are each given a one sylable name, such as An, Ta or Ki. Then when they turn 14, they both recieve an identical new name, like Kiki. When they turn 18, their names become slightly different with three sylables: Kikia and Kikio. Around that age, all the women will have a child. When they become elderly, a third sylable is added: Kikiana and Kikiono. I got this idea from a book but in truth this sylable-name is practiced in several different cultures.

That is an excellent idea! I have a system of adding "MD" after the name of anyone with healing skill so that I can find them quickly and I will sometimes put a "B" after the name of my breeders for the same reason. It would be nice if that was automatically in the game somehow. Say after you click on a skill preference that a letter or symbol appear next to the villager's name. Just an idea.

Also, I usually name my villagers after family members that they look like. I don't like the golden child very much so I always rename him "Stupido" don't ask me why it just fits. LOL

I will sometimes names the baldys and the guys that look like they have afros and wear zombie paint something like "Egor" or "Bruno" and I give the pretty girls names like "Hillary" and "Brooke"

Does anyone else do this?

Sometimes I rename a villager if I don't like their given name. Other times I will rename twins or triplets. For example, I had a VV named Soda (the original name). She had triplets and I named them Fresca, Fanta and Tab. With that one, I was just having fun with the names. Also, if I have a duplicate name in the same age group, I will rename one of them just to keep from confusing myself.

I have one game where I named all the characters after some of my students...they know about it, and constantly ask about their characters...one of them was laughing because she had 14 children including several sets of twins, and one set of triplets...and one girl got mad at her bf because he kept going indoors with other women...oy

Grin. When I first started renaming villagers, I felt some of them looked Italian so I used Italian names.

I don't know if this Url will be an active link, but here is a URL to my favorite site for names. It sports all nationalities.

http://babynames.indastro.com

My first three Italian villagers were named Migliorozz,Montuccio, and Marchesa. Migliorozz had a son named Migliorott, Montuccio had a daughter named Montuccia.

Then, I started seeing Villager names everywhere. I read the advertisements in the Sunday paper and came up with this list..Hershey, Snickers,Reese, Heath, Mars, Brach, and Cinnamon. Strong sounding Boy's names

Once I had adorable blonde haired twin boys. I named them Ben and Jerry after the ice cream.

My Scanner is an Epson, and my MP3 player is by Coby. Coby and Epson became two favorite Villagers. Coby had a daughter named Cobee Ann, and Epson had twin daughters named Epsonette, and Epsonetta.

Some fantasy names are Bramble,Icewind,Chilling,Bluebell, Elfglitter,Gossamer,Willow, Frost,Moth,Buttercup,Corntree.

So far my favorite Girl names, or at least the ones I use most often, are Samantha,Sam,Sammi,Morgan,Passion,Shame, Laurea,Cornelisse,Annabelle,Blair,Grace,Bellissa,Julianna, Wahila,Loredana,Aussie,Lauren, and Farmer Meg.

Fav Boys names are Heals, Benetton, Rickety, Garrison, Keillor, Bane, Laurentius, Lauro, Laurian, Gregori, Freddy, Hank, Father Dan...and more...

I had triplets once and named them
Marsarius
Marzarius
Marsibilia-Girl's name but didn't think he'd care

Grin. I also had a villager of whom I had kept his real name, Hakan. Hakan had twin boys. I did not have time to think up names, so I called them Hakan Jim, and Hakan Joe.

Another time I had two ladies who gave birth to two sturdy little boys at the same time. One was called Gin, so I changed the other little boy's name to Tonic.

I try hard to write down on paper who mated with who. Because of this, sometimes I scream with anguish when my villagers sneak inside the hut and do the deed when I am not watching and thus have no idea who the daddy is.

Fun Thread

In one of my games I renamed all the characters after Anne McCaffrey's Pern series. For example, say a boy was named Tabo, well when he became 14 and old enough to work, he was renamed T'bo. Girls were named after queen dragon riders. The male leader of the village was called Jaxom (after my fave dragonrider).

In all my other games since, healers are named Dr ****, builders are Mr/Ms ****, scientist are named **** Phd. Breeding males (I always have two) are named Don Juan and Casa Nova. Mostly I give them Aboriginal names, because I like 'em lol, and I can name my fave villagers after my kids (Janarra, Coen, Kylara & Bindi).

Yeah this is a fun thread!
