I got message saying I reached the limits of my population, but I thought 99 was the limit? Please explain.

90 is the defined maximum population, but there are circumstances that could cause the population to go higher (multiple births, Island Events). The game will not allow breeding at or above 90 villagers. In all my many months of working with the game, I've never had a population higher than 97.

you can get up to 92 if someone gives birth to triplets, but your population can go higher than that if you get certain events, like the barrel of giggling infants
