Yeah, I've been doing that a lot, especially for early stages of a village when food isn't unlimited.

The trick there is that as long as the crops show something to be harvested, another villager can be set to collect some more crops. But if they fail or drop it, it is lost.

So if I plan on getting those extra bits of harvesting, I'll make sure that there is only one penultimate farmer so that everyone can harvest at the end.
