To anyone thinking of "diddling" the time.

In my last village, my 6th (killed the previous five, quite easy, really), I put the clock forward by one hour when I had stacks of nursing mums because they bore me and I love seeing the new kids. I had the flower field, graveyard, farm, lagoon, huts and my population was 22. I thought I was cruising, baby. When I got back into the game after adjusting the time, every male member of my village had died, leaving me with only females. I went back into the time to put it back to where it had been (I diddled by only 1 hour), but it made no difference, they were still as dead as dodos. End of game and I was furious with myself. Now attempting to murder my 7th village, but they have all survived me thus far, thrived actually, DESPITE my help.
I do have some questions, and I was wondering if anyone knows an answer, could you please post it?
What is a runner, is it a villager "running" no matter what you put them to (I had one of these dropkicks) and what do you do with a runner? (I used to put him in the ocean all the time, hoping to induce a major cardiac event leading to his death, but eventually starved him out).
When you enter the details of a character, is the background crystal clear behind the character, and the character out of focus or is it my puter?
How can you make builders when there is currently nothing to build, do you just put them at the research table and tick building?
When they are nursing, what does "nursing for" mean. Do they all nurse for different periods of time?
I know you can bang the drum and get all the kids to the schoolhouse, but is there any way to lock them inside for a while and have some peace?
I re-name all my villagers, and have just noticed my only child, gorgeous re-headed little thing called Lillie, is a boy. Would LDOW suggest counselling or will he adjust without any psychological damage?
Would anyone support my suggestion that LDOW incorporate a McDonalds in Version 2, I need a food backup. Mine usually starve to death. Big Mac = 5 tech points? Whatta ya think?
Please help if you can and everyone keep posting. This is so much fun to read,it's hilarious and the picture thread was brilliant, probably the only way I'll see a gc the way I'm playing. Any boy, was I wondering and wondering what he looked like! I don't post much, but I read all the others. So good to see that we "evictees" of RA had somewhere to go!

You can go ahead in time but not backwards at all. Time warping is a touchy process, you can really hose up the internal timers in the game when you set it back to normal as well.
A runner is a viller who has running as their likes in the details screen. They are the best kind they can get everything done twice as fast as every villager. Rare but fun when you get one.
When there is nothing to build drop a builder on your huts, their status will say fixing huts and it will increase their building skill, once they have one notch of building if you tick it they will continue to repair huts to gain more skill.
Detail screen is not blurry on mine, nor have i heard of it being that way on anyone elses. Could you post a screenshot of what you mean for us to see?

I think the "blur" on the detail screen is actually just a quirk in the way the graphics work - the background is pulled directly from one graphic, but the little character is actually enlarged from the tinier "villager" graphics you see in the game. The enlargement comes up a bit blury.
I LOVE the runners - if you get one at the start of the game, but him/her on farming and you'll quickly get enough food to last you through that first gap before you get enough tech points to get them into the crops. If you get one after your food sources are stabilized, but him/her on building and watch for all the building related puzzles to be solved quickly! If you get one after you've solved all the puzzles, put the runner on breeding and watch him/her chase after the opposite sex. I wish I could have a whole village of runners!

I agree runners are great I'd love to see more of them. The "Nursing For" is how many minutes they are stuck carrying around that baby , the game speed you choose varies the amount of time they are nursing for.

Don't ever try to get rid of a runner, they are brilliant! One of mine cleared the blockage on the creek all by himself. He was getting elderly and I actually bought the next level of medicine long before the point I usually would have just to make him last a bit longer!
Adjusting clock: don't try that, you can really kill them this way! Forward kind of works if you know what you're on about (it can still have undesired results and will affect the rest of your system, too), but if you adjust your clock backward without having level 3 of farming it will take ages till new crops grow and they will all starve to death.

I always restart my games until I get a runner. Also make sure none of them have any dislikes.

I'm guilty of that too, but it's hard in the beginning to get everything going, you need to have villagers you can depend on to get the job done!

I've never tinkered with the clock but I have had runners! 3 at the same time, I couldn't keep my eyes off my game, I LOVE to watch them run around
I have all my player slots full. One game reached 92 people, and went on for a generation or two after that. I have never gotten a runner. It's very sad.

I like runners. I am also guilty of "auditioning" my opening cast of characters
I audition too. When I started my last game I had a shopping list. A shopping list with two items on it. I wanted a pink haired girl, and I wanted her to have only one other female with her on the island. The game I had just finished had started out with two females, and five males.
The first four kids were males too
I had lots of fun with it and wanted a repeat. Took me a looong time to do, but I succeeded

Sometimes I "audition", sometimes not. I figure that if I get different mixes then each game will be new and interesting. When the game with the lone Cheop ended (a bad event killed him ) I restarted it, still in hard mode. The adults were two males and two females, and the kid (a boy) was a runner! Progress so far: A good event gave me the Medicine level 2 and the adults have researched for Farming and Science level 2s. Overnight I had one of the females have a kid, and that was another boy, but I'll wait some more before having her have another or even building the hut. I'm also going to try to see if I can do this game without fishing. It may be possible once my runner is old enough to work.

Thanks for the answers, all helpful and fun. I see that nobody addressed the McDonalds issue. Guess that one's not gonna fly! I read a post from one grump who said he only got 2 days out of the game and it was a waste of his money. I am in awe of him, I've been plugging away for five/six weeks and still only have a population of 17 (this is, of course, after I had accidentally killed off six previous villages). How he finished in 2 days, I'll never know. After all this time with these little buggers, I still have about twenty five million questions.
The idea that some of you have V V Auditions is a cack. Maybe V V Popstar, or V V Idol would be a goer?
