OK, I played for some time, found the first two magic fish easy enough, stumbled onto the Grooper on my own. I sell tank fulls now for fast cash.
BUT, finally deciding I want to look up the formula for how to make the rest, I printed a page off a fan site. Now, I see THEIR formula for the grooper is way different than what I've been doing. And on this site, there is yet another.

So how many ways are there to make each magic fish???
I won't bother with cheat sheets if there are too many ways. Since reading that one, I've started automatically selling off fish not in the list of need to keeps.

Each fish breed has a specific number of combinations from which it is produced, although that number varies from species to species. There can be anywhere from only a handful to well over a hundred combinations that will produce a given fish.

WOW! Turns out, I found one of the magic fish but my way is a rather round about way compaired to what someone else posted.
Seems there can be a whole list of ways per fish then?
Very cool game.

(Only thing I wish is it didn't take SO long to play. If you take suggestions for future versions, I'd ask for a way to speed up time. 2x is still pretty slow.)
