I'm sorry for this newbie question but how to MAKE people just stay on research? In fact just make them continue doing what you want? I read on a previous posting that you can but checking something but I cannot find what they were mentioning.

I'm running out of berries and I am NO where near getting farming.

If you click on "Detail" you will see boxes next to the various skills for each villager. Putting a check mark next to "Research" for a villager will cause them to stay more focused on that task.

You can check out this thread for a few tips to help when you're running out of food.

After you "set" your villagers skill, keep hunting mushrooms and set your kid(s) on them to hold you over to farming.

also, keep the game set on 1/2 speed, they are more efficient

when I first start a game I don't let it run unless I'm there to monitor it, because the villagers do have a pesky habit of wandering away

Especially on a "Hard" game.

Also, it helps if you at least get them to the Trainee level before leaving them alone.
