Hello!

I have been lurking at this site for several weeks and decided a few days ago to join because the people here seem very nice and supportive and I LOVE Virtual Villagers!

I wanted to post about my recent experience with VV. I love this game and I am very excited about the sequel. I have learned a lot in the forums here over the last few days and I just thought I would post them here in case they might help someone else enjoy the game as much as I do.

I really thought I had this game mastered and had nailed all its little details and secrets but after coming here there were many new things that I was thrilled to find out about!

First, I found out about the bongo drum next to the school which if you click on it, it will make the children attend school. This is helpful to keep the Golden Child busy if he is interrupting things. (Doesn't that kid drive you crazy?!!!) Also, if you want to see how many kids you have or change their clothes its a good way to get them all in one place.

Second thing I learned was that you can change the characters clothing by highlighting the person and then pressing the F6 button. This is really helpful if you want to assign different costumes to specific workers. It helps when you need to spot a doctor quickly!

If anyone knows anymore tricks please post them!

I have 6 games going at all times and I log in many times a day to check on my villagers. My longest game right now is at 1400 hours as of this posting. During this game my population actually got up to 92 because of triplets being born which was really cool. For several days after I had solved all the puzzles I decided to just let this game run and see what happened. Well, after weeks of checking in and always having 90 villagers I checked in yesterday and had only 4 villagers left! I don't know what island event happened but it was certainly devastating. (I think the sequel should have some kind of ongoing list of island events so if something happens while you are not at the computer you would have it documented.) I thought that I was going to have to give up on this game and finally after all that time re-start it but I thought I would try and save things. I had a golden child, 2 adult females, and one 45 year old male. So, of course without having to worry about food, tech points, or construction all this male will have to do is keep the females preggers until the island is repopulated.

I don't know if this is a random fluke or if it is programmed in, but every time the females became pregnant they had triplets. This happened 3 times in a row with each female!!! In 6 hours each female had 9 babies each! This seems like statistically unbelivable if this is random. (If anyone could tell me if this is random or not I would appreciate it)This occured the first 6 hours after I started repopulating the island after losing 86 people. I now have all the adults set to breeding and the oldest kids are now getting close to worker age. The females didn't continue to have triplets they had twins and single babies after all those multiples. Now, I have 37 people and it will be interesting to see how it plays out. I wish I could see stats on each villager on the detail screen for the sequel such as number of babies delivered (male/female) and with the males number of children fathered or something like that. Even though the game is solved I like to keep it going and I see lots of other people do too.

I have another game running in which it is totally solved with a population of 90 and I have them all set to be parents and it is hilarous! I had a group of 8 men following one girl around. As you probably know, you have to mate a male at least 2 or 3 times to get them interested in continuing the behavior. Well, when they are saying their "Oh" when you pick them up it sounds kind of like a pornographic movie! LOL! And for those of you that don't know this, here is a little time saver - when you mate a male and female, you don't have to wait for them to go into the "love shack" to see if you have a baby. After the villagers embrace and "kiss" pick up the female and put her back down right away and if she is preggers then she will have a baby in her hands after you set her down. Be sure to lift the male up and down too or he will go into the love shack alone. It just takes a long time to wait on that process sometimes so maybe that will help someone!

I would love to hear different game scenarios that others have set up. Thanks!

I know its too late now but when you have a massive event like mass death. Dotn close the game. Look at the log file right away. Each time you start the game it catches up everything to current time and its all in the log file. So if everyone aged and died it would show it or basically what happened to cause the death. Its a very useful tool but you are correct 1 male can make many babies so you got lucky there. On my game that is completed i usually try to take the youngest male and check him as a breeder and i never run low on people then he just keeps going and going and going like the energizer bunny.

I too came back to one of my long running games to find my little people almost gone, so I was working on repopulating when my husband woke up (my pc is right next to our bed) and said "are you looking at a porn sight? lol All he could hear was "ooh aye ooh"

I made some observations and learned something new today and decided I would share it here. I am sure some of you probably already know this but I can't find it posted anywhere else on the forum so I thought what the heck!

Did you know that if you have a parent set to breeding that there is a set order to how this plays out. The male breeder will ALWAYS go from female to female getting everyone pregnant from oldest to youngest!

You can find your oldest non-nursing female and you can be certain that the breeder will continue to go after her until she has a baby. Even if there is someone right next to him that he could well, you know.. he will keep his mind on the order. LOL If you get bored like me, you can click on the female he gives a baby to and then click on her details and see who the next woman in line is (the next younger female) and you can watch how persistant he is and how far he will go for the next woman on the list.

Pretty cool~ (I know I need a life!) LOL

Yes, I've also seen a male or female "breeder" go to the "alpha" female or male on the list. And it's not just for "embracing" it is for any of the actions that require a villager to be "waiting for someone." It was really frustrating in the game I had where the oldest male was also a runner. He kept getting interrupted from his tasks.

Another "cheat" I figured out (from comments on this board) is getting multiple mushrooms for each one discovered:

When I see a mushroom I pause the game (sometimes hitting the drum first so they are all "going to the school"--that makes it easier to distinguish the older kids from adults, or just maybe get the kids closer to a mushroom.)

Then I'll find as many kids as I can picking each one up and placing him/her on the mushroom. When the action stops saying "picking a mushroom" then the original disappeared from the board, but the kids who have already picked one still has his/hers.

I'll unpause the game and watch the crowds of kids all bring their mushroom to the food bin. Sometimes they get confused on the way and will stop and "drop" it, but most make it.

I'll get 8 food points for each kid that does, and it's even better when it is an orange mushroom!!!

This also really distorts my mushroom picking stats!

That is really cool about the mushrooms! I just tried it and it worked. The most I can ever seem to get is 5 at a time. I also noticed that even though the game is paused the mushrooms (or turkey or pumpkin LoL) still comes and goes as if the game is playing. I have seen it disappear off the screen and reappear somewhere else during the pause. I was wondering if anyone knows any mushroom secrets such as how much time between them or does anything influence the appearance or quantity of mushrooms? Also, I know the red mushrooms are more valuable but I have only seen maybe 5 in the last several months so is there something I can do to increase red mushrooms in my games?

Does anybody know any mushroom secrets? I would be most grateful for any info. Thanks!

I haven't seen any other mushroom hints, other than when I discovered that if you are really quick, and there are kids nearby a spotted mushroom, you can get 2-4 kids on a mushroom without going into pause mode.

I'm usually more interested in mushroom in games that aren't finished (i.e. haven't gotten fishing and/or GC) since the effort to collect the mushrooms is more valuable to the villagers. Though just this morning, when a red mushroom popped I put 7 kids on it! I'll usualy just ignore it or find a nearby kid.

It seems to me that mushrooms seem to appear more often if they've been collected more recently, but I haven't found anything to base that on, and the mushrooms don't appear in the log.

I think I have spotted the places where they are most likely to appear, so if I'm "mushroom hunting" I'll scan around the edges of the board.

Though sometimes it is really frustrating to spot a mushroom and then have to go get the kid (I'll use the "M"=map option if I need help) and then by the time I drag the kid over to the mushroom it disappears.

Or the kid gets the mushroom and then gest stuck behind the rock on the east side or the food bin itself and loses the mushroom before it gets to the bin.

Hey.. that is one thing that can be said for a kid who dislikes running. He takes his own sweet time getting there, but get there he usually does.
