In one of my villages, I had a group of 3 girls and 3 guys all the same age (I had a quick start game upon recent purchase). Anyways, I named them all and I've preplanned who I'd like to attempt to put each one with.

My fave couple right now is Diamond and Pippin (names taken from Lord of the Rings). Diamond is my favorite villager and she deserves the best looking guy in the village!!

Has anyone else had pre planned matches?

For a short while, until they get experienced enough in breeding and say "Thank you very much, but we don't need your help anymore. We'll choose for ourselves".. lol

I did for a while but some of my girls were being trollops and sneaking in the hut with other ladies' men! After the 18th illegitimate kid I gave up.

I just try to find the oldest males and the youngest breedable females.

Tried to make a genetically diverse island (Had to allow cousins to intermingle) but it seemed to work out ok.

I only played when I could watch them directly so played for about an hour or 2 a day.

Family History:
Mona like running, nice bonus to start off the island.

I watched Calvin runoff with his sister-inlaw. Nothing worse than being caught cheating, unless you have a child with your lover, but he had twins! Ouch!

I guess Paul had a thing for his Aunt. Paul is quite the socialite of the island, always chatting, telling jokes, arguing etc.

Kenneth and Kaylee couldnt keep their hands off each other.

Anthony and Faye were just unlucky having 2 sets of twins.

I try to keep a tight control of what happens on the island as to see how diverse I can make the island.

Now thats crazy lol...i wondered if anyone actually did anything like that with family trees and all. Would be a nice feature to implement somehow. Maybe a programmer could write a simlpe program to do it. Anyhow cool, i usually dont pay much heed to my breeeding. I just check breeding on a guy and turn the game off and come back in a half hour to 30 kids

At the beginning of a game, I'll pick one or two ladies for the Village "Mama"s. And then add two to three more by mid game. (Usually spaced apart so the kids aren't all the same ages.) At the end I'll pick a guy in each generation to be a breeder and then they'll make sure the population stays steady. I've noticed that the ladies will usually go for the same "Alpha Male" on the list, and the guys will often find the oldest ladies first.

I had one game where I selected nearly everyone for "parenting", they ended up just pacing near the "Love Shack" in packs.

Sometimes I play matchmaker. It works out alright, so long as I watch the game and don't leave it unattended. They do get away from me occasionally, though.

Usually I mix and match, going for maximum genetic diversity. In that case I don't allow parent & children or siblings or half-siblings to breed, but everyone else is on the "okay" list. I try never to give my guys any breeding skill. But my ladies will occasionally take the iniative. When they do that I usually go ahead and breed them with who I want them with, so I can control them (because I'll already have fishing by time they get that experienced).

Seems to me they usually go for first adult of the opposite sex in the game file. That's usually the oldest, until you have an elderly die and a kid that took their place turn 18. And that's okay when the females are iniating, but I don't like my nursing mothers to die, because I hate losing the babies.

Well, it'd be interesting and frustrating. You wouldn't have to work on the huts or the beach or try to get fishing. Just get medicine so you can live longer and hope for an event. I actually wouldn't mind trying it.

As far as matchmaking in the romantic sense is concerned - no, I haven't tried that. Only once, when one of my villagers looked remarkably like my real life man I hooked him up with a girl that looked a bit like myself. Call it jealousy!

What I do definitely do, though, is try to control who breeds with whom. I attempt (though not always successfully) only to have master villagers have babies in the hope that my kids will get smarter. This sort of works, mainly because I only ever have women go after guys, never the other way round.

Getting event(s) early in the game where a villager disappears or they get sick or die may cause a village all of the same gender. I started over once when that happened to me, but that was before I read about the "Hard Tribe." I may try the recovery now...

Could you explain the reason that you always have the women go after the guys and not the other way around? I always pick a male breeder and he mates in order from the Alpha female in decending order of age. Thanks!

Well, unless you want a population explosion on your hands, a female breeder is easier to control. At least if she gets enough breeding skill to wander off and breed on her own, she's got 2 years to mind the baby. A male breeder on the other hand, (and I'm trying not to be nasty and compare this with real life.. lol), will go around merrily impregnating every female in sight - and the more skill he gets, the worse it gets.
