...I would appreciate an advice.
I started the game a couple of times, and each time all of my villagers would weaken and die during the time between, I think, 2nd and 3rd crop harvesting. And, obviously, I wouldn't want to see that happen again.
So, I was wondering...I have puzzles 1-4 and 8 complete, and 5 is on the way. My village has seven people, five adults, one child and one baby. I had previously bought level 2 for farming and spirituality. What is the next thing I should buy? Waiting for the level 3 of farming seems like a long way to go.
Also, any other economy-unrelated tips to escape this err...genocyde would be more thank helpful:)

Are you running on easy, normal or hard? You may want to try for an easier level before you get a better feel for things.
Don't bother with spirituality until later. Unless it really creeps you to see the skeleton in the village center.
Also, the lagoon and garden can wait until you are farther along in the game. And even the first Hut.
Put 1 or 2 villagers on foraging or farming the crops and all the rest on research. But if your researchers get weak, trade off jobs with the farmers for a wile.
I usually try for level 2 science as soon as I can. That increases the number of tech points that each researcher earns, and therefore a shorter wait for level 3 farming!

In fact, I am running on easy. It makes me slightly embarrassed of how impatient I am. And, well, while I was sleeping, something happened to the computer clock, it went one hour backwards even though the daylight savings is supposed to be off in, like, three weeks...and everyone died once again. However, before that happened, I figured out the thing with trading jobs and that was increasing health of those who were one research injury away from death.
I started a new game now, and, at the very beginning, I lost the child because I didn't know about the thing with reading a mysterious book, so, right after that happened, two villagers made a baby bfore I could even stop them from getting indoors.
Currently, I'm at around 3000 points, I completed only the well puzzle, I have one mother nursing a baby, one girl foraging and two guys and a girl on research. The berries are still in existance (about the same amount in the food bin as on the bush), but, I had yet another event, the thing with stomach cramps and I wonder why I'm this unlucky...yikes.
I will try to follow your strategy, hoping I don't get that wonderful event that destroys all the food in the meantime. Also, I will hope the villagers will survive that critical time between two cycles of crops.
Also, I'm playing the easy mode on 1/2 speed and...I guess speeding it up would be hazardous?

Pulling the speed up is fine while your watching the game, that allows you to hunt for mushrooms for the kid to pick. This can boost your food level until you can buy farm skill#2.
The events are random, I had a functioning village at level 2 farming when I went to bed and they were all dead in the morning from starvation after an event too. I tend to leave my games in 2x speed, sometimes with terrible results.
