Anyone have a list of what the likes & dislikes do for villagers when it pertains to the skills? I've been trying to figure out how they effect them in their skills. I've had a little success, but still have no clue why the others exist except for perhaps to add a bit of realism. I mean, like, so what if they hate papaya, is that going to hinder them in anyway? My favorite like so far is running though. Man they make awesome builders. LoL

I love getting runners! I just started a new game and got a runner right away who came on as a trainee builder! Boy, the first hut got put up fast along with everything else so far!
Sometimes likes/dislikes are important. I had one VV who liked medicine and became a Master Doctor very quickly. If a VV like rough wood it's a clue they might make a good builder, and the reverse is usually true.
Some who dislikes swimming won't be good as a farmer. They won't fish. Ditto for a VV who dislikes crab or fish.
A VV who dislikes work or likes resting is probably best suited to research or heal, not farm or build.
I agree though that some likes and dislikes really don't give one any help in determining what skill to train the villager in.

-I had one of those bush-phobia villagers, but to my suprise he was able to forage just fine! He'd just saunter up to the big bad berry bush, grab a plate of fruit, and run like the dickens!
-A villager who hated rocks, but she didn't run from the temple ruins. Shame, I love it when they do that. She aslo hated exploring but loved whale meat--one of my more interesting villagers, think she might be my fav.
--I've only had one or two villagers who have two likes and two dislikes. The only one I can remember was Kissa. However she did not seem more interesting than the others, nor were they more interested in her.
--Once everyone in my hard game was dead except for a workaholic and a slacker. Workaholic was a kid though...
--I once heard tell of a villager who liked berries and hated bushes. Poor poor villager...
--fyi, I HATE runners. Well maybe that's a tad bit harsh, but they always get everything done real fast and then just lie around. I once had an original villager who loved running--put him at the berry bush and my all my villagers died because the berries ran out too fast.

No, Tabbeh, you had it right. I was thinking more along the lines of a post that explained how the likes & dislikes would affect the villagers in their ability to do each "job".

I've had an interesting time with runners. Some of mine have seemed a little schizophrenic...never really liking to do just one thing more than a few times in a row, even if they have no other likes or dislikes. Once I had a runner who disliked work, so that made it a little tricky to make them stick with any job without close supervision and a lot of patience. I had one villager who disliked fish, but because I didn't pay attention to this until it was "too late" and my village was in a groove getting things going, she ended up being a Master Farmer before I got Level 3 Farming. When the lagoon was unblocked, she got the Fertility Fish just fine, but she runs away EVERY TIME I put her in the ocean. If she's too close to the food bin when a villager brings back fish, she'll run away from that too! lol I've also had a guy who dislikes turnips and just does "nothing" when I put him on the crops, but he doesn't run away, just goes back to whatever he was doing. I've never had a real problem with anyone who dislikes wood or rough wood being a good builder, but I've had several villagers run away from clearing the lagoon or building a hut because of disliking rocks. If they have a certain color preference I try to accommodate that in their clothing, but I still haven't figured out if that means they don't like to hang around people wearing colors they don't like? I'm putting together a list of all the things I've noted in my villagers' likes and dislikes list. Still haven't figured out how to "help" those villagers who dislike sunlight! Maybe in VV2 a plane will drop sunblock and floppy hats for everyone? Hope this helps. Susan Likes: singing Dislikes: being told what to do ( funny if they had those in there)

Ok, I compiled a list of everything I've seen listed as likes or dislikes for villagers. OCD-afflicted? Maybe, but here it is...
Colors: -Red -Yellow -Blue -Green
Actions: -Dancing (if a dislike, won't party w/GC) -Resting -Exploring -Lifting -Swimming -Running -Playing -Work (sort of intangible; can affect how well they learn or do anything)
Other Living Creatures: -Crowds (if a dislike, won't celebrate or party) -Bees -Monkeys -Fish (applies below as well) -Butterflies -Flies -Birds -Snakes -Ants
Food Items: -Coconuts -Fruit -Berries -Turnips (if a dislike, won't usually harvest crops) -Crab Meat -Whale Meat -Papaya -Bananas -Fish
Nature, including Human Nature: -Sunlight (still haven't figured out what effect this has) -Flowers (if a dislike, won't enjoy the garden, but will honor the dead, temple, etc) -Caves -The Ocean -Rocks -Rough Wood -Drift Wood -Wind -The Dark -Herbs (did easily train a Master Doctor who disliked them) -Bushes -Surprises -Jokes
Miscellaneous: -Laundry -Medicine -Drums

OCD... Hmmm, I have a similar list sitting here next to me. I don't have anything different than yours, so I'm assuming we have it pretty much down. Mines ordered a bit differently then yours though.
That was the reason for the post in the first place. Haha!
As for the actions they can do, I have yet another list here for those. I can add the following ones to the list:
Add Cactus to the curious about one...
Admiring the treasure Caring for baby Celebrating Chiseling Cleaning up the beach Clearing rocks Digging Enjoying the garden Enjoying the lagoon Enjoying magic fruit Honoring the Idol Nature is calling! Planting crops Restoring the ruins Running away Sees something unusual... Studying fruitless plant Studying medical cactus Studying rare rose Studying strange lily Studying strange plant Thinking Trying to water strange patch
I'm sure there are more, I just haven't quite been that OCD. I know the GC has a few like Creating berries, restoring crops, etc.. but I never actually wrote them down.

I've compiled a lot of the info here and put it in a new post. I tried to just edit my original post, but the designated time to edit had run out. Anyway, the new post is here: Likes / Dislikes / Actions [Possible Spoilers]

nemyar, this forum has a "feature" that there is a limit to how long after posting a user can edit his/her post. I think that is AnthonyK meant when he said that "time has run out."
