The kids that are generated through breeding, do they inherit characteristics of their parents? I know that they take on some of the skills from male parent, but what about their looks or hair color? are they also able to imbibe on other characteristics like running?

Would appreciate any input. Thanks

Skye

In the game I'm playing now this is what I'm testing for. I have seen more kids born with likes and dislikes if BOTH parents have them. Sadly not very many are generated with those. Skills come from both parents and if both are masters in the same skill the child seemed to have more in that as well. I have looked in the game file with an editor and there are skill points added to everything that the parents had, but you must have a certain number for it to show up in the game. So far I have only had 1 runner from a parent with that skill, but I can't say I was all that thrilled over it. It isn't my favorite of the likes/ dislikes. It does have some use but also comes with a downside. The trade off isn't that great. When building the 2nd hut this guy dropped approx 15-20 boulders during the first 30% of contruction getting stuck on the hut or food bin. This is also true when doing harvesting. But the fishing goes very well.

In my current game I have 5 runners. One is a child. Yesterday I thought I'd try an experiment where I bred 2 runners. Also, the lady runner was a twin. I got triplets and I thought I was a genius. This would be something if the running attribute could be brought through genetically.

Alas, to my surprise, when the triplets were born, they all liked resting.

Very funny. Back to the drawing board.

I bred a runner with a doctor and got my very first running doctor so you can selectively breed. It took a few tries, but I finally did it~I think

Yes, I've found you can breed selectively for other traits too! I bred the giggling twins who arrived in the crate, and all their descendants down the line giggled when you pick them up too, so I tried breeding the other sounds kids make, and found their kids made the same sounds.

Then the game forced a population explosion on me. I turned off all breeding because I had 45 people which I thought was manageable. I wanted them to farm, research, and then I could do more experimentation with breeding certain traits...glad to hear you succeeded in a running doctor! But the game ignored my choices and overnight I got 54 kids, topping out my population. There goes my selective breeding program... :/

I know what you mean. I too have trouble keeping the population down long enough to decide who to breed and such. I am trying to breed "unrelated" couples but after awhile it gets too difficult to keep track. Not too long ago,all my elderly women villagers had babies! There were plenty of young ones with breeding experience but these men just wanted the older babes!

And I've seen the opposite, the women who are looking to mate always go for the oldest male villager.

I believe that the software if just looking for the first eligible "mate" on the list rather than a random matching.
