To see the kids walk on water, just place them on the left bank of the lagoon near the brush, wait a bit, and they will walk right across the water.

Yeah when ya get a random event where all the villagers decide to go to the beach - the kids walk on the water there too - they lose their ability to float when they turn 14 - so til then they are extremely buoyant
