When you use the time cheat, you have to progress time only until 11:59 a.m. or p.m. and then let the clock roll over by itself. This works for me. I never get the 800 minutes anymore! And, when it rolls over I just increase my time until the next 11:59 a.m. or p.m. I wouldn't even try to set my time back to normal until the game is over.
