Whenever I was away from the computer and the game (I didn't quit/close the game), there would always be some villagers "going back" to work, e.g. scientists "researching" but they are walking towards the table instead of really researching...

I even find a 52-year-old male villager walking out of the hut after "going indoor" ON HIS OWN!!!

Does anyone find any other strange behaviours when you are away?

If you watch, you will notice that the villagers will tell you what they are doing, or in your case what they are going to do. So when a villager is curious about the boulder and then decides to go back to researching, his action will be researching while he walks back to the table.

And as far as "going indoor", that is the action title with for the whole sequence, and most likely the little lady walks faster then him, so she went indoor and came out before the man ever reached the hut.
