First, how long do villagers usually live?
And secondly, how old are villagers when they can't have children anymore? Or can they give birth until they die?

how long villagers live depends on the level of medicine you have. with the 3rd level of medicine, my villagers are generally living into their mid-70's.

villagers can breed until they die. if a woman is nursing when she dies, her baby will die too.

I've got level 2 and my oldest villager is a 66 year old woman. Isn't it just a tad strange that the villagers won't breed till the age of 18 but keep breeding into their 50's & 60's?

Can anybody tell me how to get more girl babies born? I've got 16 youngsters (from 2 to 7 or so) and only 4 of them are girls! When they're older I'll have to keep those girls breeding non-stop and that's not fair.

Is there any logic to what gender the babies will be? Do scientists have boys and farmers have girls? Please help before the next generation is condemned to a life of breeding servitude. Thanks.

Even with only 4 girls you shouldn't have to breed them non-stop... and I agree with you, I HATE breeding women non-stop.. so even if it means my game goes a bit longer, I give them breathing space.

ok....but what if the only females you have are the two originals you started with, and you have had 8 babies, and 3 that washed up in the crate, and ALL of them are males. My son is playing and this is the situation he is dealing with...and his females are 47 and 48, and his youngest child is male. How is he going to get more females, when he's at 16 villagers with level 2 everything, and only 2 built huts? Do they build another hut if you increase your population, hoping to get the preferred sex, or what?

It would be nice to have the babies one at a time so I can try and track who the parents are - or maybe I'll just worry about that in my next game! Once I get everything done on easy I'll try it at the next level up.

Thanks for the support.

Dar

Ouch emerald.. you're really having a gender crisis. With 16 villagers and 2 huts, you won't be needing another hut until the population reaches 30.. keep your eye on food levels so you don't overbreed, and I'll cross my fingers you start getting some girls.

You misunderstood me. I have 31 villagers and I've got as many as possible working on the new hut. It's that 16 of them are young and the gender balance is waaaaaaaaay off - the initial crew of 6 was 3 and 3 if I remember correctly? with one little one or something. And don't forget if there's not enough food they say "this villager is too hungry to think about that" or something similar.

And now I see what happened - you were replying to Emerald but it got posted as a reply to moi. Oops!

From experience, those forty-something villagers can keep breeding until they are sixty something. Weird but true! I've got a similar dilemna as my baby boom of 16 only yielded 4 girls. At least they'll all have a date for the prom...roflmao.

Your villagers can breed until they die -- the only drawback is that if your nursing mom passes away, the baby/ies will go away (they don't get buried, but they don't grow up, either )

And gender is random, as far as I know, so the more you breed, the more likely that you'll get the girls you need.

My 6 youngest now are all girls, so things are sorting themselves out after all. I was pleased and surprised when I went back to my game that one of my girls had turned 18 and gotten pregnant without any encouragement from me! I had checked "breeding" on all my females so I guess maybe that helped.

I have a third question. Do you have to have a master doctor to study the plants or can anyone master them?

I've completed that puzzle at the very beginning of the game with villagers who had little, if any, skill.

Anyone can master them -- I usually do this very early in the game, before most of the villagers have much more than trainee skill in anything.

It shows in the status bars at the bottom of the screen when you click on the villager (untrained, Trainee, Adept, Master)

You'll get a popup message and the puzzle will show as completed on your Puzzles screen.
