Hey Everyone,

I've played the game once, created spreadsheet for fin and body types. Now playing it a second time and it is almost as mindboggeling as the first time, inspite of knowing what the magic fish are and my speadsheets. Looking at the spreadsheet I still end up with dead ends. So those of you who have played this game many times, what strategy to you find works the best? (that is after you've earned enough money and done environment research etc.)

I cross my fingers and hope one of the babies grows into a magic fish. I understand not everyone sees this as a strategy, but it works for me ^_^

I agree with the person above. I had to restart my game 3 times due to issues with my Palm. I was far along all those times and everytime I started over, I would hope that one of my breeds would be a magic fish!

Some of the magic fish I got the other times came from different parents. There are so many combinations.

I finally got all 7 fish but I am still playing to try to get all 500 species. It is hard....just as challenging as finding the magic fish.

I was a haphazard breeder. I didn't use charts or anything. I only used "strategy" on a couple magic fish.

Janet, my original strategy was apparently trying NOT to find the magic fish. The idea of finding the magic fish seemed too daunting, so I just wanted to match the fins to their appropriate bodies to end up with a nice tank full of pretty fish. Seemed simple enough.

But that's how I ended up with a few of them. In fact, I was a teeny bit disappointed when they turned out to be magic fish, because all those trailing sparkles were messin' up my serene little aquariums!

Turned out that the pursuit of matching fins to bodies was almost as difficult, as some of the fins seem to work for sevral bodies!

But over all, keeping track of what crossed with what produces what (via spreadsheet) was the only way to progress, no matter what direction I was going or what my goal was.

My strategy was to look for new kinds of fish, they are really beautifull, and by mistake found magic fish, 7, then 6 then 4 then 3 then 5. I have found 235 differente kind of fishes

That's a lot of fish! I only found 158. Once I had all of the obvious fin/body matches I could get, and several "close enough" matches, I gave up and went back to Plant Tycoon, which I had abandoned once I had started Fish Tycoon. I never did stumble onto magic fish #4 and #5.

But I knew it was time to give it a rest when I realized that I had lost my focus and didn't have room for one more fish. I had 3 completely full tanks...one tank devoted entirely to just sharks with various fin colors (my favorite is the Fanned Shark), a "X-Mas Beta" (green beta with crimson fins, lol!), and various other mismatched fish that I just couldn't part with no matter how goofy they looked.

I've played this game for some time now and never found all the fish. I use a random breeding method though. Sometimes it's fun just to start all over and do it again. I like the beginning more than worrying about getting all 7 fish, guess that's crazy huh?

I was a random breeder too, and got all 7.

For #2 I did use some strategy. There is a cheat sheet somewhere out on the internet that shows what all 7 fish look like ( I did a google search). Based on what #2 looked like, I was able to get it. But it still took me a while even though I saw the end result.

Someone has posted another kind of cheat sheet that will show you what happens when you breed certain fish together.
You can scan the message board for that.

my strategy is jus to keeping breeding fish and jus keep trying. this is wat i do: 1st, finda kind of fish that is not very eazy to die n sells for like $30,$40. keep breeding them (and selling!) and keep researching and buy all the things u think u might need. once u think u can start finding mage fish,u start buying eggs n breed a lot. although i still newb n only found 12 species, i earn quite a lot of money but sooner or later u'll start getting the idea. oh yeah, anyway this are my stats, i noe u may say 'thats a very long time already!' and all those kind of things, but i decided to play it for a long long time b4 i get those mage fish.

i use my head i memorize all the fishes names then what they make when breeded it workes for people like me

I keep a spreadsheet with three worksheets:
1. Species list (so that I know which fish I have and have not found)
2. Fin combinations
3. Body type combinations

this is to worst game ever i idvise you not to buy it

While you are certainly welcome to your opinion ; most of us, here, find Fish Tycoon quite ejoyable.

I, for one, would encourage many people to pay the registration fee and play the full version of the game.

I started out by buying a second set of eggs. I saved one just in case. I bred a fairly pricey fish until I had a lot of money. I think it was a bananafish. I saved up enough money for the temp. regulator, and the first envirnomen upgarde.

I beat the game without uses charts or memorization. But, it took a lot longer than it took most people who used charts.

I played 2 times..got 4 of 7 first time to help me figure out what works(and what breeds what)...then I just started making $$$ with some $30-$50 fish and started saearching for the magic fish I got the golden guppy first time I played and that is the big money maker. so the only fish I had a hard time searching for was #1.. the reg eggs just wernt giving me one for a long time... to seek out new breeds I used the unknown chemical on preg fish until I would find a new magic fish.(hint make sure your fish is preg when you use the chemical other wise you have no idea how to breed more, if they are preg when they mutate then you will end up with a breeding pair)

I'm too lazy to keep a chart. Instead I use ladycfii's method of stick with one fish, breed an entire tank with that one fish, put an ! next to the pregnant fish's names so as to keep track of which ones would lead me in a circle, and then sell the pregnant fish once they give birth. Once I feel that I've gotten all that I can out of that one breeding fish, I'll replace it and start the process over, adding a @ to the fish's names and will continue like that until I have finished.

If you're wondering about my labeling system, I just follow the order on any QWERTY keyboard:

You could just use numbers if you'd like, but for some reason I can remember the symbols easier. Go fig.

can someone tell me what kind of species there are in the whole game cause i'm trying verry hard to get them al but some how it doessend work :( and if someone has the whole list of species that makes it a little easyer thanks a lot

Maybe it'll be useful to have a post with the 21 fins and 21 bodies for the people who don't want to use clever arts or download the spoiler spreadsheet. That way people can make their own lists of species or start working on their own spreadsheet...

I could just post a spreadsheet that's empty, except for the setup with the fin and body types. Yeah, that's what I'll do!

There are literally hundreds of species of fish and thousands of different combinations that produce those species. I don't know of anyone who has just a list of all the possible species. Besides, such a list wouldn't tell you how to breed them.

If you download the "blank" spreadsheet that I posted, you would see all of the fin and body types, and you can see all of the possibilities achievable from combining them (for example, a Beta can have all of the possible fins type (Pink, Orange, Greenfin, etc), and so on down through all of the body types.

The Clever Arts database is really the simplest way to view all of the possible combinations, but it requires Internet access. The spreadsheets are very useful, too, to help you breed any specific fishies (and they can be kept on your computer). Maybe you have a friend who knows how to use Excel, and they could help you?

and in the end it will tell you what to breed whit what to get a species
