Does any else's villagers have their names changed for no reason? I keep a list of all my villagers in age order and three times now one persons name have changed, it happens when two people are born around the same time with the same name or for some reason the person born after another has its name changed to be the same as the one ahead of it. It usually happens when they reach around the age of 10.

I have the same problem except it's not new villagers, three of my old villagers names changed! I know have 3 Isi's and 2 Tofu's! Makes things a little confusing when looking up details!

I have the same problem, only been playing for 3 hours, but all my females ended up being called Nunai and both males were called Aziz - can't remember what their original names were to change them back - does anyone know how to fix this please? It's very frustrating.

You can go to the details page, click in the name section and give them what names you wish.

I've noticed this as well in Virtual Villagers. I had a new child born as Guapi, same as his father, but after changing their names to Guapi I and Guapi II, I've had no trouble. For a while, Guapi I had weird actions under his name.
While examining the cactus he said he was "trying to move the boulder." Later, while examining the same cactus, he was "drinking from the well." I think I dragged him about and that straightened him out.

The names are less likely to change if you rename your villagers, but there is nothing you can do to fix the bug.
Is there an expected patch for this problem? I can see how this will quickly become more then just an annoyance. I also have the problem where the names are being changed TO the names I chose. So clearly changing their names will not help this bug. Keeping a list of 90 villagers to correct this is no solution. Patch please.

You keep track of all their names? I quit worring about the names after all the puzzles are solved. What is the point?

I doubt I would that game long after solving all the puzzels. No matter how fond you get of a village the game does get stale when nothing new can be accomplished. So I would start a new one. However the point I was trying to make is this bug creeps into games rather early and continues until the end. That is a LONG time to be fixing bugged names. I don't want 6 people with the same name, it's hard enough when many look the same as well.

I never knew there was a bug in regards to the names. I honestly haven't read all the posts yet, but just to clarify is the bug what causes people to have the same name more than once in a particular game or is there something else going on? I never really noticed a problem on mine. I just thought that it was randomly assigning names to people and mimicking how names are assigned in the world. If there is a bug does that mean everyone has it in their game or is it a random thing like a virus? (I am not really sure how these things work.) I still crack up at the names these villagers get, especially, "Tuna", "Soda" and "Tofu". Why in the world would these names be assigned in the game? I bet someone at LDW was having their lunch and had a last minute inspiration! LOL I just bet! I hope when they are thinking of names for the sequel that nothing bad happens like a bad case of stomach flu or we may end up with names like "Diarrhea", "Pepto", "vomit" and "Headache"! LOL! Praying for good health to all LDW employees! Thanks in advance!

I never thought there was a bug. Kinda thought it was like real families -- I'm a Margaret, so is my mom, her aunt, greataunt. Since I've worked on my tree I've found lots of lines in the family that carry the same first names.

It's both normal game function AND a bug! It's normal for the game to assign the same name to more than one villager (as in real life - how many people do you know with the same name?)! There is also a bug that causes some villagers' names to change while scrolling through the details screen. When this happens, the affected villagers will always be "adjacent" to each other in the details rotation.

WHAT? I think "The Village Idiot" is a great "islander-style" name! LOL

I've noticed that sometimes my villagers names have changed on their own. Glad to know that I wasn't imagining things! Though I still think that the game shouldn't initially assign the same name to twins or triplets.
