Once the cave is opened you can have a villager inspect the inside. But nothing happens after that. It is the end of the game (assuming that all the puzzles are solved at that point). Rumours are that the cave gives us a hint to a sequal but as those rumours seem to be only from gamers like myself and not from the LDW staff, then it's purely that, a rumour.
