I think having avatars (along with the ability to upload files and add images to your message) is enough already. In my opinion, having an additional image in the signature would add more visual clutter than value to the forums.

I agree. I've seen other forums where the members add so much "stuff" to their signature that it visually overwhelms what they were even posting about. What is meant to draw attention all too quickly has the opposite effect, when everyone is doing it, and it's on every single post.

I agree, the avatar is your place to express. The signature is just that, your signature and relevant information about your system/game version if you want to post it.
