Re: People
What is the avg lifespan of the villagers? How long are the women fertile? Some of my people started showing painted or masked faces, I don't know why. Does it have something to do with age or spirituality?
Re: Flower Garden What is the purpose of this feature? Does it lead to something else? How do you get the flower garden going? There is no indicator to show how close you are to being done and I don't like sending a bunch of my people to work on it if it isn't likely to prosper. Are children supposed to be peeing in there? On one hand, I would think this could fertilize the flowers, but it could get out of control. It is hard to keep the little ones out of there when nature calls.
Having trouble getting any of my scientists to master level. I want to open the school that I have heard about. Is gaining research experience an advancement of the science profession?
Thanks in advance for any help with these questions, I did look but couldn't find my answers anywhere so forgive if I am asking a repeat.

mmm... basic advice is wait and see. I had the same problem with the garden, so I sent one person to water it and left it overnight. The next morning voila! Flowers galore. Somehow I think it helps with the health of the villagers, because they say they feel "well" in it. Took me about four days to get a master scientist. I just left one person on the table and let them go at it. I had some others comming and going, but had the one guy doing nothing else.

Okay, let's tackle this one at a time and see if it helps you at all.
What is the avg lifespan of the villagers?
On level one medicine, I believe they get elderly around 50 and if healthy will live into their 60's.
For each additional level of medicine they get "elderly" ten years later and after you have all three levels, the age limits are endless, some say 70's, my oldest was 89, I just read that someone had 97.
How long are the women fertile?
2 villagers years so this will vary on the speed of game you're playing.
Some of my people started showing painted or masked faces, I don't know why. Does it have something to do with age or spirituality?
So far as I know, it's just the designers imagination in making so many different looking villagers. Means nothing, just makes then cute.
Re: Flower Garden What is the purpose of this feature? Does it lead to something else?
Yes, later in the game, way later.... it's for a couple puzzles near the end (and is a puzzle itself) How do you get the flower garden going? There is no indicator to show how close you are to being done and I don't like sending a bunch of my people to work on it if it isn't likely to prosper.
Water, water and more water. Just keep watering, it takes a long time. And you need the right kind of water too (for that you'll need the spoiler section)
Are children supposed to be peeing in there? On one hand, I would think this could fertilize the flowers, but it could get out of control. It is hard to keep the little ones out of there when nature calls.
lol....yes, it's just for fun, won't do anything harmful and won't help you either.
Having trouble getting any of my scientists to master level. I want to open the school that I have heard about. Is gaining research experience an advancement of the science profession?
I believe it the science techs do help since the villagers research faster but you can have master scientists with level one science tech. Again, it just takes time. And it's harder for villagers to become masters than trainee's or adept's. As long as they are researching, they'll keep gaining experience and before you know it you have masters.
Thanks in advance for any help with these questions, I did look but couldn't find my answers anywhere so forgive if I am asking a repeat.
no prob, hope it helps. Hopefully I'm correct in the above but it's what I've noticed in all my games.
Enjoy it and remember, the answer to most of the above is "just give it time". The game requires mucho patience.

Thanks SaxyT, I appreciate your thorough answers. I am being relatively patient, but I just want to make sure there are no goose chases. At this stage of my game, pretty early, I don't have time to mess around...a typhoon just came through and took all my food, just when I had everyone researching and trying to get my science tech up so I could really accelerate through the other stages of research...so I had to put all hands on deck with the garden.
This is a really fun game. I bought it at Big Fish, and lately they had a wicked dry spell for good games (at least the ones I like to play). This was loooooooong awaited.

I'm with Big Fish Games also and yeah, big dry spell. I got VV on the presale and haven't turned it off since (since it keeps going on its own).
Until all the puzzles are solved, there are no goose chases. If it feels like a goose chase, it's either something that takes a lot time to complete (and there have been requests to LDW to put percentage done notes on the tasks that don't have them form others in the forum) or it's something that you don't have the proper tech advancements for yet (usually indicated by a villager being confused if you put them somewhere). Just keep retrying as you keep advancing and eventually, you'll figure it all out.
