No tarax, they just possiblilities.
Some will happen, some won't, it's all random.
My original game (which is still going) has still not seen one single island event. (Well, with the exception of the two that happen in every game at 15 minutes and 45 minutes I believe). But my stats for events still say zero and that game has been going since Big Fish Games' presale.
Don't be scared, they're not all bad and you can still make the right choices if one comes up.
