Matilda, I used to try and keep track of bloodlines and the like myself. But throwing those villagers together to get them to breed does have its downside, as you mentioned: Once they have some smidgeon of skill, and especially if they have a bit of it, they'll start going out there and smooching on their own. I threw up my hands in despair (and disgust twinged with amusement as I watch the villagers' mating habits), but if you want to keep documenting "unofficial" increases in your population, just note the woman who had the child and say it came from either the eldest or the lead man. This especially works if you just have the women initiating breeding, since the program feels that either the leader of the village or the eldest villager results in the best genetic lineage. If you have difficulty determining who the leader of the village is, it's the person to the right of the GC in the Details section on the screen, or you can see everyone arguing with/complaining to/teaching/praising/chatting with/telling jokes to/embracing him/her. =P
