Sterghe.
Grin. As I sit here sipping coffee and looking about my notebook strewn computer table, I know your daughter and I have a lot in common. I too keep track of who is related to who...thus all the notebooks, and the amused looks from my Mark.
Tell me, when the villagers take it upon themselves to have kids on their own, does your daughter throw her papers up into the air, and utter a heart-rendering AAGGGHHHH!!!!!
I have
And will do so again

Matilda, I used to try and keep track of bloodlines and the like myself. But throwing those villagers together to get them to breed does have its downside, as you mentioned: Once they have some smidgeon of skill, and especially if they have a bit of it, they'll start going out there and smooching on their own. I threw up my hands in despair (and disgust twinged with amusement as I watch the villagers' mating habits), but if you want to keep documenting "unofficial" increases in your population, just note the woman who had the child and say it came from either the eldest or the lead man. This especially works if you just have the women initiating breeding, since the program feels that either the leader of the village or the eldest villager results in the best genetic lineage. If you have difficulty determining who the leader of the village is, it's the person to the right of the GC in the Details section on the screen, or you can see everyone arguing with/complaining to/teaching/praising/chatting with/telling jokes to/embracing him/her. =P

I have played the game off and on since I bought it.It is worth the money I paid for it.Once a game is finished it is finished. At least this game has differences with every new game.Like a villager gathering flowers and taking them to the graveyard.I even had a beached whale.A monkey stealing bananas, deseases, all kinds of differnces. My children have gone to school.I'm sure there is even more thing's that I haven't even witnessed myself. The more games and the longer you play the better it becomes.Since there is a new game on the way.Who knows what is next.

When I first started VV, I kept a family tree as well...but it became too time consuming. I then tried with just one family, but that too became more "work" then fun so I stopped.
The best way I have found to manage mating is by having one father only. I have two villages in particular that even when population declines and as long as I don't have the breeding option ticked, they don't mate until I decide, haha!!
I used to call them my "celibate" villages....but I think that they got a few secret crates of condoms instead of diapers, haha!!
The only time I create a second father is when the original is very elderly, then I keep the pop up to the max until he passes away so I at least know who the father is of children born in that time frame.
I do have two villages where the fathers are very "keen" shall we say....but at least I know "who's the daddy" and that's something, haha!!
Best of Irish, Maura

As I sip on my Coke, I too am smiling. The three of us have the same things in common; lots of notebooks on the computer table, a husband named Mark who gives me the same amused looks, and a desire to throw said notebooks into the fireplace when your 60 year widow ends up with twins. I just quickly marry her off to a recently widowed gentleman, and pray that he's the daddy and not the 23 year old stud. Most of the time I play on 1/2 speed, therefore I am usally about to catch misdeeds before they occur and pretty much control who is with whom. But even once in awhile, my little folks take a mind of their own and I just have have a woman convince the new daddy, " honey, she just looks your brother. But baby, Tuna is really your daughter." Works every time.

[quote=Walt]Yeah , fidelity enforcement... <img src="images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> I like that! Virtual Villagers is meant to be "loose" enough in structure to support that kind of role playing. Internally we talk about the "sand box" factor of the game. We're glad you guys are having so much fun with it! 8)This is one of things that has made the game fun for me. Yes, I am prudish (maiden name, what do you expect?) but I do keep my game on 1/2 speed, pause often, because I do like knowing who my folks are related to. I'm sure VV will be even more interesting since the babies look like their mums and dads.

I agree. You get to be god for $20. How can you beat that??? Seriously, though, if one plays many games, they are all different. I didn't find a big difference between easy and medium, but boy--hard was a whole different ballgame. Then after finally getting a surviving hard village, I've been trying to play hard again. I keep getting only 5 villagers to start, and no builder, making it even more difficult. Perfect!

The Hard Tribe I have giving now lost their first three folks folks a couple and their child) and my Adam and Eve were leave to struggle on. Thunder and Rose had twelve children; ten of their own, adopted the little one who's parnets died and the other child was found in a crate. The tribe is now 91 strong ( the last to become in the family way, is having twins.)

I haven't found much difference in the three levels. Hard really isn't any harder for me than easy. I've had no problems on any of them. Luckily, I haven't had any events wipe out all my food or get my berries until I had farming or my crops until I had fishing. As long as I wait until right before I have farming to have my first child, I have no problem. Of course, I am a micromanager who can barely stand to leave my villagers alone (especially early in the game) and so I check in on them often and pause if I'm going to be gone a while.
