I have 30 villagers and over 5000 in food. I've noticed that my people like to relax a lot. Am I over feeding them?

Your villagers will tend to be less tense about things when their basic needs are met. There are two basic approaches to the game - micromanage their every move or let them do as they wish. Sometimes I do one, sometimes the other - it just depends upon my particular goal at the time.
